scalemates Check image #4.... this evening after writing this post I actually switched my mind... ;)

Wojciech Kucza Or maybe, whenever someone fills this review form, as on the 1st picture, the algorithm would show some sort of an average score for each option? Some of the variables (though you made them as objective as they can be!) might be prone to bias - someone would see the details OK, while the other as underscaled/overscaled. Also - especially in reboxings and re-releases there is a danger of having some parts distorted in one kit and perfectly OK in the other. Well, actually this happened in a recent Gripen release - one box I got have some major flaws that were not present in the second one I bought. I think that showing this in a form of graph or table would be clearer than getting through the text every time. But probably either way it'll be done will be amazing!

scalemates yep that is part of the goals

Boris Belay Hi Tim, Wow, you are hard at work on this !

Looking at picture 4, I see how it could be intersting to have a synthetic view of all sprues in a table like this, but I find it a bit confusing. Personally, I would mostly check out the sprue by sprue section of a kit, as in picture 1. Still, if the summary table is easy to generate, why not add it as an option ?

One question that seems unresolved is whether this overal review part should be
- a very factual type of entry, where basically one review would be needed per kit (as SM works for the moment, especially with the 'Detailed Contents" section),
- or a more personal review, with more room for opinions, and possibly an averaging system of those opinions.

I think the first option is more in the spirit of SM, and can build on what is already there (1 Kit = 1 Detailed Contents = 1 Open-Box Review). As for the rest of the database, this information could be corrected by new users if it is missing or factually incorrect.

But perhaps to take into account the fact that some particular kits may vary in quality (mostly for flash and for undershot sprues), we could have several "Comments" sections, where any user can add their own comments ("Mine had no flash at all." / "On mine, sprue C was bent and part 45 was detached." ;)

This keeps the SM objectivity (it's a database, not a discussion board), but leaves room for variations in individual kits.

Or, to think about it the other way : what are the things that may change from one individual kit to the next (of the same model in the database) ? Flash, Undershot Sprue, Broken Part,... What else that is related to poor manufacturing process, or bad packaging (in other words, not freak accidents like missing decals or sprue, which the manufacturer should replace) ?
THese are the only 'variables' in an objective review (as opposed to raised rivets, overscale details, etc., which are in the mold), and so perhaps should be the only ones that need different 'opinions' or a different way to rate them (multiple entries, with maybe an averaging or counting).

Timothy Heimer Good points Boris.
20. February at 13:17:36
scalemates it will be both, personal subjective info in combo with extra facts. this also means that multiple people can give their own personal view on the same kit. you will not be able to alter the personal data entered by others.
20. February at 21:33:41
Spanjaard data from multiple users should give a really good view, specially if there are many reviewing the same kit. excellent idea. much better than a review by just one user. finally real reviews arrive to modelling :)
20. February at 23:11:05
Boris Belay My point was that sticking to objective facts would result in "real reviews", which is what ScaleMates is about.
Multiplying opinions only confuses more what is confusing to begin with (opinions).
(And 'Comments' are not the same thing as opinions, but a free-form way of giving information that does not fit the standard boxes.)
But I trust that Tim will work out a good way of combining several reviews into a meaningful form.
Exciting changes, indeed !

greasemonkey The kit and box look original. If it is a recast, then it is the best I have ever seen. No recast I have seen has a box made as if it was an original. So I am thinking I have an original first release. I have this one for at least 12 years (probably longer). I did a internet search with kit no. 1205, but could not find much. I found a couple of sites with kit number LF1505 (which is the current available kit) where the number 1205 was in the title.

Hi Tim,

there seems to be an issue with moving things form Wishlist to Stash.
e.g. - I have moved this one

SCM Book: Encyclopedia of Armour Modelling Techniques

About 12 hours from Wishlist to Stash and the State has changed from Wishlist to Stash.
But if I click on my Wishlist the Book ist still there (with the State "Stash" ;) and when I click on my Stash there the Book not in the list. At first I guessed it could be a caching problem - but for more than 12 hours ?

Could you please check ?

Thanks a lot in advance !

Bye, Dirk

Jonas@scalemates
Hi

Little question. A few days ago I added a kit and some related parts from my stash in to a project. I indicated this project as being " Work in progress". For me "in progress" would mean I'm actually building it. It's no longer just an "idea".

So I was wondering why all the items in my stash who are linked to that project aren't automatically indicated as "started"? Wouldn't that make sense in a stash-management? :) :)

thx for a great site!
Jonas

scalemates Nope! You could still have decals or figures still not started or even some items on the wishlist. So it is up to you to decide when to move them

Rex@scalemates
I have a suggestion. How about some way of tracking who enters what when changes are made or a kit is added? and where the info came from?

Such as:

Revision History

Kit added by Joe Smith (from catalog)
decal info added by Tim (from MM review)
Lineage corrected by Sam Slade (from memory, or, told by a friend)
Lineage corrected by RexTN (from physical possession of kit)

If our screen names are on there, maybe people will be sure to only change things if they KNOW it, versus having stashes messed up by false info?

Łukasz Gliński Two additional informations regarding the Polish camo:
1) desert scheme is not confirmed (it could also by Temperate Daay Scheme)
2) "LW" was the standard code of RAF (Polish) 318th Sqn)
PS. Camo no.7 (ROA) seems to be purely fictional - I have never seen a confirmation of ROA airplanes without German markings.
