It's a great kit and makes the painting and weathering easy. I hope to have "glamour shots" up this weekend.

Fantastic work! The weathering is outstanding. Judging from your in progress pictures the parts fit really well. Love the color variations in the OD, great job all over! Congrats.

Marvelous job! Superb build, paintwork and weathering. Thanks for sharing the detailed photos. Fantastic work. Congratulations. Did you use the Tamiya decals? Also, I like the stand you use with the three posts.

Absolutely spectacular paint job Derek. Looking at pic 142, can you describe your wing weathering technique?

Fantastically done! Very nice camouflage

@Alec K, 142 is showing the beginning of the oil weathering. I have a series of greens, browns and tans that I mixed together and kindof dopple it on the wing. When I have something I like, brush on mineral spirits until it begins to dilute and spread.

This kit is truly spectacular as you'd expect from Tamiya. Thank you all for the kind words.

@Jim J I used the Tamiya decals only when necessary, like for the cockpit (minus the seatbelt). The major markings are all AM.

Thanks for the info Derek. I tried this with oils before with much less success, seems like I need to keep at it.

@Alec it needs a base coat to be no shinier than a satin, if that helps.

Got it, thanks. My issue is probably using the oils too thinned: I would wet the surface and then add thinned oils. Do you apply the oils at full strength (ie undiluted), and then puddle the thinner over?
9 October 2019, 00:01
Derek Jordan
For that effect it was tiny dabbles of full strength oils, then copious amounts of thinner.

So, apart from the gun barrels and decals, everything was OOB??? 😮

Patrick I also used HGW seatbelts and the Eduard Brassjn wheels intended for the academy kit.

Even then, what an amazingly detailed kit Tamiya brought out! Beautiful and superb what you've done to it! 👍
