Neil Thanks Alex, Martin & Giannis ? Very kind of you. To answer your question @Giannis Kaltapanidis - Yes! ? It did serve in a red/metallic colour scheme as part of a Soviet aerobatic display team during the late 1960's - the kit gives that option... However I did my usual bending of the rules - used artistic licence and mixed Metallic Red Vallejo Premium Airbrush Colour 62.044R with a flat base red colour. It should just be a non-metallic red finish to be accurate. But I couldn't resist 'pimping it up'!
Slavo Hazucha As was stated here earlier, a red MiG-21 is very real - there were several (min. 5?) in an aerobatic team from Kubinka in the 60´s and even Ace Combat 7 features one, so there really can be no doubt... 😄
Version seems pretty much +/- OK too, those I saw were PFM´s and had blue-color numbers - minutiae, really...
As for the upper red color - IMHO artistic license is more than granted, since the colors on Soviet and even recent Russian planes (esp. the "Eggplant" Serdyukov-era color) go through severe tonal metamorphosis depending on age, climate, type of maintenance & storage...
A pretty neat job on the metal too, really interesting technique and a cool looking result. However this may be more fantasy than any variations of the red, since AFAIK the red aerobatic planes appear to have had a light grey (or light blue in some cases, earlier MiG´s) paint on the lower half... 😉
All in all it looks great, you seem to have a heart for old kits, which is a trait to be admired in itself... the work with metal & weathering really pulls one´s eyes away from any "traits" of a seriously old and basic kit 😉 Would really like to see what you do to a modern kit too! 👍

Rowmk9 Hi Neil, I took a trip over here after your comments on my Ju-86 build. That's a fantastic finish on a vintage kit. It's great to sometimes get the old kits out and build them right? They shouldn't all be fodder for stashes! I think you're done an excellent job with what looks like a kit with 'old school' fit 🙂 good work comrade!
John Always like to see the old Monogram and Revell kits get built.
