Oh, don't wanna miss that one. The Shinden is a really beautiful and interesting aircraft.
Lot of rescribing needed on that kit, if I am not mistaken.
I built one too last year, but I wasn't patient and diligent enough to get a good result. 🙁
Looking forward to your Shinden, Roland! 👍

Welcome mates! Wow, I didn't expect such great interest in this plane. Thought I'm a little more under the radar here lol
Personally, I think the bird is very beautiful. But tastes are different.
I will build OOB without rescribing. I'm still thinking about whether to build in flight or with landing gear.
What I have tested so far has fit well together.

@Greg that is exactly the point mate🙂 Futurama design 🙂
@Roland in flight it would be more attractive but just my two cents

Hey that is no criticism in object choice at all i love unique and obscure designs but this one for whatever reason will never make it on my workbench🙂

Roland, did you really get a Shinden? As Slavo revealed, it is a 190 and you want to pass it as a Shinden by glueing the left wing on the right side and vice versa. We saw what you did there😉

Slavo, i was also amazed when i saw the picture from a japanese museum. I always thought that they were normal "interior green". Unfortunately, I didn't hit the shade 100%. Should have a little more blue in it.
Primer done ... Now the fun begins 🙂

I call it done!
A great little kit. After seeing more pictures without antenna than with, I removed it again. It looks like version 1 didn't have an antenna. There are also obvious differences in the colors of the greens of the different versions: there is a more bluish and a more greenish one. That is very confusing. Anyway: The build was fun!

That panels of paint peeling off in sheets, is
really more of an exception than a rule in what

exist. Tastefully done, to quit being long-winded.

@Roland Of course I know the history of German motor company and what they did during the war. German government apologized after the war and punished the war criminals. But Japanese government did not. I think this is the problem.

Does the size of the symbol matter? I mean, I haven't seen anyone make a fuss about a Yamato or a Bismarck build where one can find small depictions of said symbols. Same in all those Messerschmit and Focke-Wulf builds that boast one of the said symbols on their tails.
I have ties with Poland and Greece, countries that, like others, suffered dearly in WW II. Should I condemn each build, whose topic is German WW II, italian WW II or Soviet WW II?
This site is about building models and the enjoyment we get out of it either through our models or other people's build. Other things should be left out.
@Robert: I've been to Auschwitz-Birkenau. It is and should be there forever to remind humanity of what kind of beasts and monsters we can become.
Back to the build, Roland great result in every aspect. Hats off!

However, as you have presented a new issue, I'd like to reiterate the official view of Japan about the issue.

And the Japan-South Korea Basic Treaty 1965 & Japan-South Korea comfort Women Agreement 2015 are now issues between nations , so I don't want to touch these further here.?
Last but not least, many Japanese included Emperor feel sorry for making Korea a Japanese colony and Koreans a Japanese soldier at one period in the past , and over the years, apologized and compensated, donated, I hope you believe me.

I do not condemn any of presentations sporting symbols here. I just can imagine that these sometimes simply raise negative emotions. For example, I just remember my grandfather's reaction when I brought home a model of Schwimmwagen with some figures... and I believe it is also our duty to explain youngsters that we do not intend to admire the ideologies behind the symbols that appear on the models we build.

Your welcome Roland, I didn't take it as being over the top.
I most likely missed your point altogether. I like the restrained finish of it. Being a favorite subject matter, Japanese aircraft and the current finishing trend, of whole panels of paint being removed from the finish because of 'weak paint adhesion'
I found it refreshing, for lack of a better term and very well done.
I do look forward to seeing more.

Robert we don't have a disagreement here. With all those German WW II builds here and anywhere else there should be an explosion of negative feelings. The size part of my comment wasn't intended for you. We agree that it is our duty to explain to the youngsters that we don't admire the ideologies. One could even take it a step further and say that we are war mongers because we build all those machines of death and destruction.
Anyway we can continue the talk in private if you'd like.
Cheers!

I have a couple of comments to add... mainly because I've faced these kinds of dilemma around depicting symbols as well. One the one hand, I understand Joonlae's feelings - there are many Asian countries that have the same reaction to seeing the rising sun flag, it is indeed looked upon in the same way that Nazi's Swastika might be looked upon in the western countries. But at the same time, I think the level of understanding in Asia and the West are about on par with the severity of the symbolism. Western people might have strong feelings about swastika but much less so about the rising sun (although they generally recognize it as a negative symbol), while it's often the reverse in Asia. I've seen some shockingly naive use of nazi symbolism in both Korea and Japan just because "it looked cool".
That's part of the reason these symbols resonate so strongly... aesthetically speaking, they are very cool. That's partly why they were chosen. As Akira pointed out, most of them have a long history that predates them being "corrupted". I've been asked many times in Korea why there are so many swastikas - because they're on every Buddhist temple (inverted, not that many people can tell the difference).

So, I agree that this site is not for sharing political views, but I think we can also learn many things from being in an international community. Personally, I questioned the use of symbols on my "haunted tank" project. The Confederate Battle Flag is also another extremely offensive symbol to some people. So how could I have my comic book inspired tank wave that flag? In the end, I think we have to learn from, and not just try to erase our mistakes. So I do believe you can build an accurate model, without it being interpreted as a glorification of an ideology. I also believe we can use our hobby to learn all kinds of new things... not just painting skills. We just need to keep an open mind.

Phew, you will be left alone for 5 minutes and then you will start quarreling. Just kidding 😄
So first of all thanks for all the nice comments and likes regarding the build. Cheers.
I think everything has been written about the debate. I find it terrifying that you have to discuss it at all. I think NOBODY on this forum has the intent to maliciously provoke someone else. We are all model builders and we agree that these atrocities of the past should never be repeated. As Greg has already written, this is not achieved by banning symbols of the past, but by showing history.
In the case of my base, however, it wasn't even my intention to show the warlike aspect, but the aesthetic aspect.
Even if I consider the past to be important, it is already over and life lies ahead of us ...
In conclusion, however, I can guarantee that my Shinden is peaceful and has no hegemonic aspirations 😉
I hope that this discussion will not rekindle after I have built my F-14 Sundowners.

The first scene, where he is dispensing justice in town is seared into my soul. I may not agree with his politics but he can tell a story where you fall into the scene with him.
I haven't been right since.?

Oh yeah, the Dark Tower series is great.
I devoured all the books a few years ago, hmm... could be well over ten years now... good times.
And taking another look at the Shinden I realize that there was no reason to fear the raised panel lines as I did with my bird.
You did not use any panel line wash if I am not mistaken.
