he second DHC-2 Beaver is now complete as well. Fitting the two floats using the method described in the build report worked very well; however, that wasn't the real challenge – that was more the multi-part bracing. DW lets you down here: there are no specifications or instructions whatsoever, but fortunately there are plenty of lovely and informative pictures of the Beaver on floats! Added to this is the complex and attractive linkage of the float rudders via the linkage of the removed tailwheel. I think this gives the Beaver on floats a special visual appeal 🙂

Although my personal verdict on the new DW kit is somewhat mixed, I'm still very pleased to have two of these attractive aircraft in my collection! As usual, you'll find information on the background to the Japanese markings in the following article – I can tell you, it's a thoroughly fascinating story!

The first of the two DHC-2 Beavers from Dora Wings' new kit is now complete; I'd like to show you the result here. The real aircraft served as the staff and command aircraft (Command AF-1) for the headquarters of the USAF's Fifth Air Force, which directed air operations during the Korean War – a quite interesting choice of subject.
I decided for it because it depicts one of the early Beaver variants entirely in NMF. I found an original photograph of the aircraft: it shows a relatively dull, unspectacular, if you like, and rather well-worn exterior – but that's precisely where its charm lies.
Now I'm moving on to the second Beaver on floats – this one will have a completely different feel to it 🙂

Well, a two-fold conclusion is in sight: the paintwork on both models required a fair bit of precision, and the build itself demanded quite a lot of patience – so I'm all the happier that things are slowly coming together. Next week I'll be able to put the two Three-Turbo versions on their own wheels – or rather, one of them on skis 🙂

Thanks for digging up this 'little' gem 🙂 I remember being really surprised by the sheer amount of detail the manufacturer managed to pack into the box- and: all the colour comes from decals; I only sprayed the white (more or less).
