So the frame in my kit, is perfectly straight. No warpage or twisting. There's a bit of flash on the parts, but nothing out of the ordinary? So far, everything has gone together pretty well. Just the usual clean up and light sanding. Hopefully, I'll have the majority of parts ready for paint, over the weekend.

Wonderful Bozzer. I'll be glad to have this album for the day I break into mine. Having heard all the same things you have I'm happy yours is going ok so far!

I hit some primer today. Rattle cans from ages ago, but they'll be fine. Tomorrow, I'm going all out 🙂

Nigel Chapman
Looking fine. Those frames are long

Chassis and engine looking great. You're off to a nice start
2 April 2023, 01:11
Bozzer
Oddly enough, there's been a debate about the chassis frame length, on a couple of FB groups, that I'm in. I've kinda put it to bed, but I'll get a picture of the difference. You guys might be surprised?

Martin Oostrom
K100? I'm in!
2 April 2023, 04:55
Bozzer
Welcome aboard Martin. Just a box stock build, but I can see a lot of potential for this kit.

Bozzer
For those of you who wondered what the "New parts" are, the answer is in picture 9. Apart from that, it's the same truck as the PAPA truck. If anyone has any more information on this, I'd be happy to hear it?
2 April 2023, 08:39
Bozzer
Ok guys, a little bit of information about the chassis. Firstly, I found out that the original was actually white, and not black, as the instructions/directions, tell you to paint it. I found some really cool pictures of it, and the motor. Again, the motor is actually silver, and not the white, AMT would have you paint it.
Going back to the chassis, I am lucky enough to have a K100 by Revell, in the pipeline too. A quick measure and there's actually 70mm difference. The Revell is 267mm and the Hideout Truck is 337mm. Kinda expected, but that puts that experience to bed.

Kyle DeHart
Extended wheelbase due to having to fit the drag racing truck on the rear deck? Really cool info though Bozzer. Love the bandag tires too
2 April 2023, 18:20
Bozzer
Definitely mate. However, a smart guy could get this kit, install a 5th wheel, and have an instant stretched frame? Lots of potential, even for the average guy. I believe that with a few modifications, you can really have fun with these kits 🙂
2 April 2023, 20:03
Kyle DeHart
Now that would be pretty cool! A stretched K100 would look great with a nice custom paint job and and some fancy rear fenders? The possibilities are endless.

Looks real good!

Just add a second highroof cab and your entering RV territory
3 April 2023, 10:26
Bozzer
Nigel, don't tempt me! I've already thought about using the chassis for another project that I have in my head, in the future!
@István, thanks mate
3 April 2023, 11:22
Bozzer
Well, I got back in the cave. The engine/motor, looks tiny in the chassis. Obviously it's not finished, and I've got a lot more done on it. I've also got a finish coat on everything, just waiting for the parts to dry. I'll get some pictures up shortly.

This is the bollox 👍 👍 👍
7 April 2023, 21:50
Bozzer
Lol, hey Munky mate. Does this mean that you're gonna dig out a big rig and dust off your brushes?
7 April 2023, 22:36
Nigel Chapman
What this needs is a trailer
8 April 2023, 06:38
Bozzer
Well, just for you mate, I'll do a mock up with a 5th wheel and a trailer on back. But I'm definitely loving the length of this chassis. Kinda reminds me of my WIP Pete 378.

Bill Newcomer
Hmmm... fresh build. Following
11 April 2023, 04:41
Bozzer
Just a quick picture update.
However, you guys thinking about doing this build, take note of the rear wheel issue. I'm pretty sure that the difference is 4mm each side? However, I'll do my best to confirm it 👍
2 May 2023, 20:45
Kyle DeHart
Stunning stuff my friend. Making me want to get into mine. Too many irons in the fire right now though so I'll just admire yours.
2 May 2023, 22:27
Bill Newcomer
That longer chassis has some promise in building a COE with a longer sleeper. That big piece of decking could be repurposed as well for other builds.
3 May 2023, 05:15
István Szücs
Fantastic build! What kind of clearcote did you use after the Molotow pen?
3 May 2023, 06:30
Dominik Weitzer
nice to see one building this truck. like your work
3 May 2023, 07:18
Nigel Chapman
What are you going to put on the back?
3 May 2023, 11:47
Bozzer
@István I use Alclad 2 gloss clear. I have found that it doesn't dull the chrome like most do. I recommend that you allow a couple of days before you clear coat though.
@Nigel. I have a sealed, original, Bandag Bandit, to go on the back.
@Bill. This kit has lots of potential and I will be getting a couple more. The extended chassis has given me lots of ideas.
For you boys wanting to do this kit, make a note on the prop shaft. The extended one is slightly too long. You only find out when it's too late. My next one, will have a few modifications.
3 May 2023, 12:35
Munkyslut
That looks the bollox mate 👍
3 May 2023, 19:45
Bozzer
Thanks, Munky mate. She's gonna need a few clear coats, because these decals are thicker than an elephants foreskin, but I'll try my best.
4 May 2023, 02:55
Bill Newcomer
Bozzer, when, pray-tell, have you ever touched an elephants foreskin?
4 May 2023, 03:11
Kyle DeHart
Things have taken a turn haven't they? 🤣
4 May 2023, 09:31
Bozzer
Lmao! @Bill, no mate, but I've seen an elephant getting it on, in a zoo, and believe me, I wouldn't swap with that female elephant, for any amount of money, or if my life depended on it! I used the terminology, as to best describe the superthick decals. As elephants are known to have thick skin.
5 May 2023, 12:59
Munkyslut
HAAAAAAAAHAHAHA!!!!! ……. just choked on me Haribo 😂😂😂
5 May 2023, 17:49

Lol Munky, all ya can do, is chew!

Bozzer
Hahaha!

Bozzer
Decided to strip the other rear bed side, because of a paint reaction. So, I used the time to get some pinstriping done, on the other side. The beer will definitely flow tonight!
6 May 2023, 14:48
Kyle DeHart
Excellent. I love the pinstripes.
6 May 2023, 18:37
Martin Oostrom
Nice work Bozzer!
Next time you're done fondling an elephant, could you set the teaser to the first of the freshly added pictures?
6 May 2023, 18:54
Bozzer
Lmao! You guys kill me! At this rate, I'll be the only one who gets banned off Scalemates!
However, I was in the correct frame of mind, for doing decals (which I dislike), so I figured, why not? And that's the appropriate time for all you crazy kooks, to pick on me for a change!
Yes, I'm insane, just like the rest of us, but guys, we are a community, and just that little bit of information, that you give, could help me? So likewise, I return the favour?
@Martin. Now you know why we opted out of Europe. You guys have some serious issues with elephants 🙂 🙂
6 May 2023, 20:05
Kyle DeHart
I don't know anything about elephant foreskin but I've done entirely too many decals on my builds and any sort of elephant skin is certain to be too thick. 😂
7 May 2023, 01:44

Bozzer if you get a chesse slicer just use the first slice
And stick it on whed gaffer tape
7 May 2023, 07:26
Nigel Chapman
At least no one has mentioned Gnat's pee!
Looking good there Bozzer
7 May 2023, 17:37
Bozzer
Thanks Nigel. I've actually made a bit more progress, but I'm waiting for the paint on the other side, to totally dry, before I clear coat it. I actually had the piece pegged out on the washing line today, to catch some UV rays off the sun. Tomorrow, I should be able to clear coat it, hopefully, then decals later during the week.
7 May 2023, 18:57
Bozzer
Just a quick heads up, for you guys thinking of building this...
Make sure that the engine/motor, is as FAR BACK, as the chassis mounts allow. The longer propshaft is definitely moulded wrong. You either need to enlarge the holes on the transmission and rear axle, or trim/sand, the shaft, to suit.
That 2.5-3mm gap, makes all the difference, in the final stages!
I had my niggles, and I was right! It's just taken me nearly an hour, to correct everything, and I don't ever want any of you guys to go through that.
7 May 2023, 22:52
Mona
Gnat's Pee ? 🤔
7 May 2023, 23:44
Munkyslut
HAAAHAHA Nigel …….. I reckon I drank some of that in the boozer earlier 🤣
7 May 2023, 23:53

You have motivated me to buy the roll back deck parts on ebay. It will get kit bashed into something eventually.
8 May 2023, 06:29
Bozzer
Bill, the rear deck is actually manufactured pretty well. I think next time though, I'd paint and clear coat the deck, then mask it and build the rest. Then paint the whole thing as an assembly. It's more easy than the fiddle I'm about to have with the end that goes between the cab and the bed.
8 May 2023, 08:36
Bozzer
Ok, a bit more progress today. Got the interior glued in. I fitted the stacks and immediately had an issue. There's a bar that runs horizontal, between the top of the stacks, and one that runs diagonal. Fit the horizontal bar first!
The diagonal is very sensitive to the way everything else fits. I made the mistake, and it bit me on the bum. Thankfully, everything else has come together well. Apart from a little screw up on my part, but I'll explain that when I get the parts stripped and repainted.
For those with a keen eye, the wheels are 1/24 and only there for fitment purposes. I will be using the kit wheels, eventually.
8 May 2023, 18:36
Martin Oostrom
She is smokin'
8 May 2023, 18:39

Excellent stuff

Coming together nicely, Bozzer!
9 May 2023, 15:56
Roy McKay
Great thread. I often wondered if this was the actual Papa Truck repainted in real life?
9 May 2023, 16:37
Bozzer
Roy, the Papa and hideout trucks, are actually totally different, although they look the same. I did a lot of research on these and found out some really interesting stuff. For example, the interior of Hideout Truck was originally blue, until they had a fire. Then it was fitted out in black. Although AMT used the same moulds, there's a lot of differences that they missed.
11 May 2023, 12:07
Bill Newcomer
Bozzer, I purchased that exact item from the seller in Las Vegas. That and 3 sets of other goodies too.
13 May 2023, 00:20
Bozzer
Lol, I try my best Bill.
So, I've been trying to get this animal finished and now, she's putting up a fight. The devil is in the details, so they say? And ain't that the truth!

Martin Oostrom
Always near the end, some obstacle pops up!
13 May 2023, 14:42
Bozzer
Just a few update pictures.
13 May 2023, 22:15
Bozzer
Nigel, I put the 5th wheel on, just for you. That's a long chassis!
13 May 2023, 22:16
Kyle DeHart
Really coming together now. similar in length to the Titanic, I see.
14 May 2023, 00:25
Bozzer
The crazy thing is, I'm either gonna have to get another bandit truck, or open my sealed original? Lol
14 May 2023, 00:58
Nigel Chapman
Yeah baby! 5th wheel looks very contemporary but the ramp will look more cool.
14 May 2023, 15:33
Bozzer
Don't worry mate, the ramp is staying, but it's giving me a lot of ideas. I'm just waiting for things to dry now, then I can get on with the decals on the bed.
14 May 2023, 18:50
Munkyslut
That's looking well smoove mate! 👌👌
15 May 2023, 18:23
Jarrett
Wow besides it being another work of art and not sure if I can get one of my cabs looking like that, great job on all the details!!! I did not realize how long this truck is going to be until I seen your up and close pictures.
11 December 2023, 17:19
Christian W
Cool! How could I missed that. Nice work! Interessting that you decided for a red frame.
12 December 2023, 05:30
Bill Newcomer
Bozzer, How have been coming along with this? I see your last post was in May.
12 December 2023, 05:36
Bozzer
Gentlemen, my apologies.
Life has been bat sh** crazy. With work, wedding, and the constant devotion to getting the new cave back on track, I've not had the chance to even see a piece of plastic? However, I've been making progress with my resin parts. Albeit, using my kitchen as a laboratory! So hopefully, after the New Year, I'll be in some sort of condition, to actually get things moving forward again?
I seriously love your interest in my builds though, and believe me, the stuff you guys do, keeps my passion for building, just as strong!
@Jarrett, you crazy cat!
Good to have you back amongst the fold, old chap. You've been missed!
@Christian. The red frame one, is the Revell K100. I can't wait to get back to that build!

Another one of us that has to wedge in our hobby. It's always hard to find time during the holidays (at least for me) and like Bozzer, I gotta at least come here to keep my creative juices a brewing. Keep it up guys. Thanks to all us crazy plastiholics.
18 December 2023, 21:54
Ray
Nice built, nice finish, wish my builds would be that good.
19 December 2023, 01:37
Christian W
Bozzer, I think you don't have a need for an apologize. It's a hobby, not a duty. No problem for some "months" of no prozess in any kind of things. Priority is the life infornt of the screen. To manage this is hard enough these days.
19 December 2023, 23:24
Bozzer
Support on this forum, has always been the main reason why I'm still here, and try my best, to add my contribution too. It's definitely a hobby, and not a life choice, but I know that I'm amongst fellow glue sniffers, and paint addicts, too!
Gentlemen, and ladies, you're all stars! And professionals, in your own right!
That's why Tim created Scalemates, and that's why we do what we do 🙂

Agreed! This community is the best. I like to share my wips and stuff.
20 December 2023, 08:31

Absolutely, this forum is much more constructive than Instagram.
My current building seems to be non existent at the moment but I know all you Scalemates will cover my back.
Impressive built there Bozzer

Agree 👍 with you all
One day I may even finish a model 😆
I did do a quick build to feal better about myself
But dident paint any of it
But all good easy to pull it apart again

I must agree. The hobby is about the friends along the way. I love seeing the builds on here and all of the constructive conversation

Oh just wonderful, yes agreed! What is the best glue to sniff, lol. Everyone have a great Holiday Season and a Happy New Year!

Thought I'd tackle this baby. I've heard rumours about it being difficult, warped frames and bad moulds. Let's see?
