Why was this issued in 1/32 anyway? Oh how exactly did you "dechrome" the sprue?

I guess you\ll have to ask Monogram/Revell 😉

I've been looking for a trailer in 1/32, but can't find any in this part of the globe. I've been racking my brain for a dio. I was thinking about a bit of road with some energon cubes lying around, perhaps a small crater from an explosion.

For de-chroming (new scrabble word) I just used some bleach from our dangerous goods locker in the house. Works like a charm, costs almost less then nothing. Put the sprue in the kitchen sink, poured the bleach on, waited a couple of minutes and then rinsed with water. Only a few spots remained. I'll sand those. Even the radiator grill cleaned up fine.

Hi Lode,
Painting with an airbrush takes time that's not always available. So every now and then I prep some parts from kits.
I stumbled upon a new Mig colour: Violet. That will be used for accents, pergaps mixed with iron/aluminum for a metallic shine. For the cab I want a high shine black. I was thinking about the alclad gloss black primer. With a tamiya gloss coat, could be super smooth. Any other ideas?

Hi Bryn,
Welcome aboard!

Nope. New to me.
I'll see what the mix will do on a testpiece and go from there. Thanks for the suggestion

Work is a bit too demanding at the moment, so only little is done and very intermittently.
This is an older snaptite kit and the fit.... could be better. Sanding is very necessary.

Your Alclad test is indeed interersting. But i dont know what effect i like more...😉

Thanks guys. Sprayed the chrome last night and it looks promising. If it weren't for the (toxic) smell, i'd love this Alclad paints.
The matte is almost plain grey, not so good. The gloss chrome is way better in my opinion. I'll try to get some pictures with decent light.
Next up, boring matt black for the chassis.

Another option would be to get the Molotov Chrome pens. The ink inside can be airbrushed. They do sell a refill bottle. amazon.com/Molotow-L..olotow+liquid+chrome

Thanks for the tip Bryn, but at $27 for 30ml, the price is a bit too steep for me.

True. But it looks amazing. From what I've seen a lot go a long way.

Finally some progress. Painted the chassis and attached parts, the tires, the interior of the cab, all chrome parts etc.
For the first time ever I tried to do some high/low lights. Check out the seats, drapes & bedding.
Next up is creating the Decepticon logo masks and then mixing Purple with Gun metal for a metallic purple look.

What do you mean "toxic smell"? Alclads smell awesome 😄

If you think it smells awesome, you've smelled it too much. 😉

Martin, i've been building models for 25 years now, acrylic or waterbased colours did not exist back then. If i don't get my daily dose of organic solvents i would probably have withdrawal symptoms 😄

I used to model in my bedroom when I was a kid. Who knew then that these solvents could be hazardous? A lid on the jar with thinner, why?

I like what you've done with that! I'm really not a fan of the Revell semi's. Keep up the good work!

Peter, being born in the seventies in Europe, these US trucks had a special appeal to me. Especially this Kenworth and the Peterbilt 359. They looked so modern compared to the trucks over here. Add in a young boys love of the Transformers and you end up with this project 😉

Hi Lode, I'm very happy with my purple mix. That went very well. Not too happy with the black/chrome. Turns out I can't control all the dust particles in my room. That could have been better.
Preparation and painting took some time. Assembly doesn't. This was called a snap-tite kit for a good reason. Assembly of the chassis, wheels & tanks took less than 10 minutes, no glue needed 🙂
Next up is decalling the dashboard, assembly of the cab & final assembly. Then I can end this project.

Put him together. Do not follow instructions. There's considerable force necessary to get all the small parts into the cab. This is easier done when the cab is not yet mounted on the chassis. Lower holes for the mirrors need to be enlarged a bit. I nearly destroyed the right side mirror.
Overall, quite happy with the result. 🙂

No worries Martin. If you need walk around pics I can get you most of what you may need. American trucks are grossly under engineered compared to what the same OEM build here in Oz. Cabins are externally very similar though. I think Italari had an "Australian" Western Star may years ago and a bloke in Germany built a RC Volvo towing three trailers and two dollies in an Aussie simulation a couple of years back. The Kenworth you are building is called an Aerodyne here and rides like someone hitting your tailbone with a sledgehammer. Lol!! Plenty of conversion parts are available I think to make an Aussie version. Triple fuel tanks both sides of the chassis rails does pretty the things up a bit!! Might be worth looking at sometime in the future for you if you ever wanted to build something a bit different. You have a huge variety of completed builds and I have enjoyed looking through your wall. Keep up the wonderful work mate, I am following!!

I read a book once about those road trains in Australia. Very impressive. I've never been a big fan of models with road wheels. I think this is my second truck ever. I had a car trailer back in the 90's and one or two cars, that's it. Always was more of a planes/boats builder. Nowadays I've got tanks and trains as well.
But of course, my next purchase could be a Volkswagen Beetle or a Citroën 2CV, you never know 🙂
Thank you for your compliments, if I ever have a need for info, I'll contact you. The other way around is also possible of course.

Cheers,
Martin
