And that's a wrap! This one in finished. Not completely happy with the end result, mostly because of the terrible decals...

Thanks mates; @Paul, instructions on MK1 suck, so I already missed a step, with the rails on the hangar…….

fantastic detailingm, Ricardo 👍

Ricardo Reis
Thank you @Dietmar. 🙂
15 December 2021, 13:59
David Taylor
Nice intricate work there.
15 December 2021, 15:46
Ricardo Reis
Thank you @David; it's a lot of work, the makers of the PE sets always assume that PE bends like paper... but it does not; I question myself if it is worth the time spent of roughly 6 hours instead of less than 5 minutes to glue the corresponding plastic parts; I have already assumed that I will not use a significant part of the PE that comes with the MK1 set; well, it's done, moving on!
15 December 2021, 16:46
David Taylor
I sometimes put the P E on a hot plate to soften it up to make it more pliable if it's a help.
15 December 2021, 17:45
Ricardo Reis
I heard about annealing with fire, but I never tried, I'm always afraid to ruin it; the brass coloured PE is tough but the silver one is really, really hard!!!
15 December 2021, 20:11
David Taylor
Yeah the steel ones are a tad stiff.
15 December 2021, 20:33
Ben M
PE does not give me much joy either.
30 December 2021, 00:24
Ricardo Reis
Yes, a real pain. I guess I was over-ambicious when I acquired the MK1 set...................
30 December 2021, 00:31
Dietmar Bogatzki
fantastic work even with that small pe parts 👍 👍
30 December 2021, 08:36
Ricardo Reis
Thank you @Dietmar, these are very hard indeed
30 December 2021, 11:11
Lex Jassies
That is interesting. I will be following this build.
Hmm... Tamiya has a reputation for making great kits. Exceptions confirm the rule.
As for the PE. Why not try annealing a piece you're sure you won't use?
I know that working with such small parts can be difficult. But the result is certainly visible. Good luck building and struggling with the PE 😉
30 December 2021, 11:58
Ricardo Reis
Thank you @Lex; these parts are not the rails, these seat in front of the rails that will still be added, afterwards; so, as you can imagine, they are extremely small; annealing will not help, because I don't need them flexible, quite the contrary; I'll try next with Ultra Glue from Ammo, which is a type of PVA glue, it may work better...
30 December 2021, 13:08
Martin Oostrom
Hi Ricardo, As I have her sister in the stash, I'd like to take a seat.
Nitpicking: the mooring cable in pic 38 is actually a degaussing cable, to counter the ship's magnetism.
3 January 2022, 19:08
Ricardo Reis
Hello @Martin, welcome and many thanks for the info, it is the first time I build such a big ship, so all is new to me; thanks again!
3 January 2022, 19:13
Robin (WhiteGlint)
Wow, this must be a hell of a lot of work, but it is very much worth it as I can see on the turrets. 👍
3 January 2022, 19:25
Ricardo Reis
Yes, @WhiteGlint, the effort pays off, but now I do realize there is a lot of work to be done... so many rails and the superstructure hasn't even begun..........
3 January 2022, 20:19
Jorge Ferreira
Bemfeita..........In english is Well done but in portuguese doesn`t mean the same 😁😁😁😁👍
3 January 2022, 20:30
Ricardo Reis
@Jorge, starts building yours, cut the bullsh*t! 😄
3 January 2022, 23:51
Dietmar Bogatzki
I would go crazy with all the little parts. Fantastic work, Ricardo 👍
4 January 2022, 08:29
Ricardo Reis
Thank you @Dietmar - my main concern is not the small parts themselves, my main concern is what will happen when I have to manhandle the large hull body with all the small parts in it!
4 January 2022, 10:49
Clair Greenwood
You know, if I could do fine details half as cleanly as you do, you'd still be twice as good. Excellent work sir 🙂
6 January 2022, 23:51
Lex Jassies
Looking good so far Ricardo. Looks like you got the hang of the little parts after all 😉
7 January 2022, 09:47
Ricardo Reis
Thank you @Clair, for sure you are not that bad and I am not that good - I did discover that, used in small quantities, the Ultra Glue (PVA based) works really well, and it can be cleaned with water if you need to restart; Thanks @Lex, yes, I think you have to concentrate and lower your heartbeat and the work starts to flow... I just have to remember to breathe, because the chest begins to feel heavy after a while 😄
7 January 2022, 10:02
Guy Rump
Looking great 👍
8 January 2022, 08:40
Mark Broughton
The turret is amazing!!! I sometimes think it's a shame to paint them, those brass barrels look cool.
8 January 2022, 11:00
Ricardo Reis
Thanks mates; indeed @Mark, I think the same! 😅
8 January 2022, 12:14
David Taylor
All that fret,good luck.
8 January 2022, 18:43
Ricardo Reis
Thank @David... and this is one of 5 frets from the MK1 set, to add to the 2 frets from the kit......
8 January 2022, 20:42
Ricardo Reis
Painted the bottom layer of the hull - sleeping on it, to see if I like it or if I should add more red
15 January 2022, 20:06
Simon Nagorsnik
so great detail work 👌
22 January 2022, 01:27
Ricardo Reis
Thank you @Simon, it feels like it's never going to end! 😓

i feel with you mate 😄
22 January 2022, 01:31
Dietmar Bogatzki
The neverending Story but looks fantastic Ricardo 👍
22 January 2022, 06:29
Lex Jassies
That looks amazing detailed and intricate! Great result 👍
22 January 2022, 09:41
Ricardo Reis
Thank you mates, I keep pressing forward - the bridge has taken me almost one week of elapsed time and still probably another week is ahead of me; my major concern is how these fragile subassemblies will hold on in such a huge model
22 January 2022, 12:33
Rui
Hey Ricardo...reference photo 65 comment about 'stickers'. I was surprised by the stickers that came in this Fujimi set...

There is a wood deck sticker for each flattop but I think for a good result one would get a proper wood deck for such nice kit.

Yes, my surprise too. I even dipped the first on in water before I realized it was not a "water decal"! 😄

Jörg Schäfer
Gefällt mir sehr gut der Pott. Akkurat gebaut und klasse lackiert.
19 May 2022, 14:15
Ricardo Reis
Thank you Jörg; I expect to continue this build next month, June, after finishing my double Bf 109 build
19 May 2022, 18:39
Jörg Schäfer
Bin gespannt und bleibe dabei. Zumal ich seit heute die neue Yamato in 1:200 zuhause habe. Sobald meine Bismarck fertig ist geht es los.
20 May 2022, 02:39
Gary Victory
Great work so far Ricardo. Following your build Sir.
20 May 2022, 06:14
Ricardo Reis
Great @Jörg, looking forward to it; thank you @Gary, and welcome
20 May 2022, 11:46
bughunter
OMG - so many details! I would get totally bogged down and it would degenerate into a life task.
20 May 2022, 11:52
Ricardo Reis
LOL; not so much, @bughunter, they are many but you do feel linear progress as you assemble them; I'm pausing it for a few months, but if I had kept the pace I believe this could done in about 6 months, including the PE parts, which take a lot of time
20 May 2022, 15:13
21 May 2022, 06:48
Sven Schönyan
Great build! Nice to see this one here!
21 May 2022, 06:52
Ricardo Reis
Agreed @Jörg 🙂 Thank you @Sven, and welcome

Nice amount of metal parts!
Found today an 10% offer of the 1:200 Yamato, but ... No, Thanks already too much kits in my stash! 😉
5 June 2022, 14:02
Ricardo Reis
Ahahah!!! Indeed @bughunter; I find this 1:350 to be quite imposing, I can't even imagine how glorious a 1:200 Yamato should be!!! 👍
5 June 2022, 15:11
Kyle DeHart
Big old lady! I'll jump in here to watch it sail over the finish line.

Hello @Kyle, welcome

Brass kit with some plastic add ons
5 June 2022, 21:30
Ricardo Reis
@Ben, LOL, almost! 😄
5 June 2022, 22:54
Guillaume Boulanger
Nice work paints but when i see the parts of photo etch euhhh i so confuse 😆
5 June 2022, 23:06
Ricardo Reis
@Guillaume, it not that complicated, the number of PE sheets is very large but this also takes several months to complete, so the effort is spread along the build time... 🙂
6 June 2022, 00:15
Rui S
Seguindo 👍
12 June 2022, 21:12
Ricardo Reis
Olá @Rui, bem-vindo! 🙂

May be the round things are hose drums? Good work! Never seen such dark wood deck, but a) I'm not a ship builder and b) it looks good.
18 June 2022, 20:30
Ricardo Reis
Thank you @bughunter; according to the book "Yamato Class Battleships" from Steve Wiper, "both Yamato and Musashi had their main decks painted a very dark grey; the tinting for this paint was the soot from their funnels"; the pics from April 1945 seem to show the deck still very dark, so... I went with a dark color! 🙂

There seems to be some space left and right of the hull on your bench. So what about a Yamato in 1:200, whIch I noticed today in a shop available? 😉
13 July 2022, 05:33
Ricardo Reis
LOL, a shop near me also received 3! I was near the box, it's really impressive! But I wouldn't be able to accommodate such a beast in my bench. 😅
13 July 2022, 21:17
David Taylor
Really coming along Ricardo, nice PE work.
22 July 2022, 14:50
Dietmar Bogatzki
Fantastic PE work Ricardo 👍
22 July 2022, 15:21
Ricardo Reis
Thank you mates. It really feels like weeks go by and the only thing I do is add PE, paint, add PE, paint, etc... 🙂
22 July 2022, 15:34
Edouard Carr
Detail on this is amazing, you must have the patience of a saint 😅 following progress!
23 July 2022, 10:31
Ricardo Reis
Many thanks @Edouard, patience is, indeed, the key word……..
23 July 2022, 12:52
Jörg Schäfer

But your PE's look really accurate processed. Top.
But I know that, at some point they start to annoy. That's why I'm now looking forward to the rigging on my Bismarck. 😉
23 July 2022, 13:22
Saeranii
Very Nice indeed. I have this and the new Glow2B to start yet. Years of work ahead. Hope I can make as good as a job of this as you are!
23 July 2022, 13:22
Ricardo Reis
Thank you mates; this is work that needs resilience but I still would like to finish this buid by September… maybe too ambitious. 🙂
23 July 2022, 13:58
bughunter
Please don't put yourself under pressure! This can lead to quality problems and the fun is lost.
23 July 2022, 14:24
David Taylor
Don't rush it.
23 July 2022, 15:46
Kyle DeHart
Sometimes I think I want to try my hand at a ship…then I think of all that photo etch and rigging and I'm not so sure. Lol! Your patience is an inspiration
24 July 2022, 04:49
Treehugger
Btw, I think the round "things" are rollers for rope, for when staying at a dock. I thought at first they were hoses for fighting fire.
24 July 2022, 06:59
Ricardo Reis
Thank you for your kind comments, mates; @Treehugger, I also thought they were hoses… 😅
24 July 2022, 14:19
bossy122
The PE work is incredible. My poor eyes wouldn't even be able to focus on stuff that small. I have to know: how often do you get something affixed only to have it fall off? I know how annoyed I get with 1/20 car PE, I cannot imagine dealing with stuff THAT small.
25 July 2022, 05:13
Ricardo Reis
Thank you @bossy122, I only lost one PE rail so far, from a gun turret - it must have been blown by my airbrush; must confess I have had a huge help from Ultra Glue, from Ammo; at first it looks like regular PVA white glue, but it dries very fast, it is incredibly strong and, on top, it shrinks when it dries! Very nice indeed, I almost did not use CA at all so far! 🙂
25 July 2022, 13:27
bughunter
Welcome back on bench 👍
3 September 2022, 12:14

6 September 2022, 06:16

Thank you Hugh, let's hope it goes well all the way to the end! 🙂
6 September 2022, 22:16
Lex Jassies
Looks like the Yamato going to leave the dock in the not to distant future. Hope you used stainless steel for the screws. With all that salt water later on 😉
But looking great sofar 👍
7 September 2022, 07:03
Ricardo Reis
LOL! Thank you Lex, I'm really feeling it coming to a conclusion, everyday I work a few hour on it; very motivated right now! 🙂

Está a ficar um trabalho incrível. Parabéns!
20 September 2022, 10:58

Obrigado Paulo; devagar se vai ao longe, e aqui acho que estou quase a chegar! 🙂

Kyle DeHart
Ah getting down towards the fine details now.
21 November 2022, 00:51
Ricardo Reis
Yes, indeed; unfortunately thee is no comprehensive rigging schematics, so I'll have to pay attention to different pictures…
21 November 2022, 07:51
Lex Jassies
Looking great Ricardo! 👍 The protective sandbags (?) I see on several photo's, are they provided in the kit?
21 November 2022, 09:07
Lex Jassies
By the way, I flipped trough your albums and see a lot of really beautiful builds.
21 November 2022, 09:44
Ricardo Reis
Thank you @Lex; the bags are from the MK1 set MD-35024, which I purchased separately; you will find it in the project of this build

This will be a master piece!

Ah, @bughunter, hardly, as I am not an expert on chips and will probably have made some errors, but thank you for your kind compliment

Getting close to launching from the slipways!! Who's breaking the bottle? 😂seriously great work involved with this build.
7 December 2022, 23:21
Gary Victory
Some really nice work Ricardo. The rigging must have been a headache to work out..? But fantastic job so far. Enjoying your build.
8 December 2022, 07:44
Ricardo Reis
Thank you mates, for your kind words; rigging was, in fact, not so bad - I took about 2 months of procrastination before I started, but once I did, it was really fast; major challenge was to find out what goes where; I used the "Anatomy of the Ship" book and a fabulous Youtube video from the co-author
Stefan Dramiński; video here: Youtube Video
