The flight engineer of Grog's the Shot was my mate's Dad, Fg/Off James McQuaid DFC. That's him sitting on top of the canopy, for which he got told off afterwards! His son Alastair has written up the history and specific features of LM739 HW-Z in Model Aircraft Monthly Jan 2008 issue. He suggested a while ago to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight that since Grog was such a distinctive Lanc, they might consider painting up their Lanc in this scheme. This was politely declined on the grounds that boozing and flying was not an 'appropriate' combination. Fortunately Revell had no such qualms, so you can imagine our joy when they decided to release this kit with these markings. As I recall Alastair did provide quite a lot of info to Revell on HW-Z from his private archive and they sent him one of the first kits in return. Don't tell anyone, but we've both decided to build the Hasegawa Lanc instead...Anyway, look forward to following your build. 🙂

Thanks to all your comments!
@Andy, I am also watching your double build as well.
Great story @Neil! Thanks for sharing!
I have a month delay due to lack of time because of work issues, but I will advance a little bit in December and continue in February due to summer vacations(it is hot down here right now)

nice start, I take a seat

Thanks Spanjaard and Stefan. For the wood desk I painted brown with acrylic and(after dried) then I put a thin coat of Oil brown paint diluted with thinner for oil paints and let it dry a few days. With that I achieve the wood grains

Thanks Lukasz...and still I have a way to go, but next steps are more enjoyable for me(chipping with acrylics paints and with different colors of aquarelle pencils, and paneling with different colors of oil paints)

Sweet!

Nice progress Micky 👍 the AK colours seem to have the same tone as the Vallejo in terms of RAF Dark earth. Im always concerned mine seems to come out to light. See my hurricane for example.

Micky
Thanks Andy!!
@Gary, thanks mate. I have just seen your Hurricane and I agree that they are practically the same. At the beginning both seem a little bit light but with all the weathering and oil washes I am very happy with the result! cheers

Do not think so Andy, It took me almost a year(vacations in the middle) and was only one! I would never make 2 at the same time, haha

Very nice Micky. You've really done justice to the Grog. Lanc models are everywhere; few are as authentic and well finished as yours. Great photos too!

How did you get in with the undercarriage? (I found mine delicate and painstaking!)
22 July 2022, 16:24
Micky
Hi Andy, it was a tedious process. Pieces were too thin but at the end when they bonded together they got stronger. I expended many minutes dry fitting, once I understood the fitting I used Humbrol liquid polycement to put it together outside de plane. I waited a couple of minutes until the pieces were glued but flexible with some movements(similar process like with armour trucks). Then I put it very carefully in the bottom of the plane and with a tweezer. After that I added more liquid cement and I think that worked. Cheers

Very good work

Thanks Micky, I pretty much did the same, I allowed the glue to partially cure before aligning the struts. The final "H" strut that went in was tricky, but like you say they seem surprisingly robust once all cemented together

Thanks @Curatorm!
