Bill GilmanHi mates, here is one of my latest projects. This is the 1:72 CMR resin kit of the Blackburn Firebrand TF.5, a superbly detailed kit. Have a look at the photos to see my progress. I hope everyone is staying safe during the pandemic. We scale modellers should adapt well to the crisis - we've been practicing social distancing since age 9! Cheers, Bill

Bill GilmanHi mates, I've finally got around to posting the rest of the WIP and RFI photos for the Firebrand. Have a look and see how she came out. This was a really nice kit from CMR, beautifully detailed and a pleasure to build. There were a few parts broken in shipment (and in handling thanks to my big thumbs!) but these were easy to fix. Bill GilmanThanks Mike! I kept this one nice and clean because it looked so sweet - I didn't want to mess it up with weathering. The real plane must have been nice and clean at least one time in its life (right out of the paint shop)! Besides, the panel lines seem to show up just about right for a 1:72 scale model even without any wash. Cheers, Bill

TreehuggerI guess because of how this is a resin kit, you have to rely on just superglue (cyanoacrylate), but how comfortable are you using superglue if maybe the superglue goes hard too fast? Do you have any special workflow for working with superglue with such an all resin kit?

Bill GilmanThanks mates! I'm glad you like the old bird. I love resin kits (well, most of them) especially when you can get unusual subjects.
@Treehugger - I typically use a medium viscosity superglue that gives you some time to position the parts before it sets up. When gluing the fuselage halves together, I do NOT run a bead of superglue all around the fuselage and try to glue the halves together all at once. I start with a small area, and using a scalpel blade I apply a small amount of superglue. Keep the fuselage halves aligned while it sets up. Then, continue to work your way around the rest of the way again gluing just a small bit at a time. The scalpel blade is thin enough to get the glue into the seam even when you're almost all the way around. I hope that makes sense. For fiddly bits of photoetch, I use Gator's Grip Thin Blend.
@Bernhard - I haven't been around as much as I would have liked recently, sorry about that. More silly health problems. Right now I'm waiting on the results of yet another biopsy. Hopefully things will look good and I can get back to reducing my stash! 🙂
