Do´h, shit, what a big beast! You will definately need that metallandinggear! 🙂
8 December 2011, 10:02
Urban Gardini
Yeah! I forsee that the bird will be heavy so it's better to be safe than sorry when the day comes.
8 December 2011, 10:47
Holger Kranich
Definately! Do you think you have to add weight in the nose? That will increase the weight enormously...
8 December 2011, 10:50
Urban Gardini
Yes, the kit is provided with a clear styrene rod to put under the aft part of the bird so I'm gonna need to add weight as I don't like that kind of solution. But there's plenty of room as I plan to close the bomb bay, the provided skyflash bombs looks ridiculous in that bomb bay.

Not sure how many bottles of Alclad this beast is going to take, probably going to exceed what I paid for the kit $$$ 🙂
8 December 2011, 12:16
Holger Kranich
2 Liters of alclad an some lead-nuggets, its huge and expensive this beast!
8 December 2011, 12:48
Urban Gardini
I don't have any Alclad at all but I've got Modelmasters buffable Metalizer range. But this one will take some paint...

Wilfried Bogaerts
@Tim, missed you this WE, you know how it goes, kitchen work, judging, taking pics from the contest etc etc but the offer still counts.

Visit our club stand at Willebroek and we'll have a drink there 🙂

Dave Flitton
C'mon...the Air Force motto is "Peace is our profession" then under your breath say "...but war is our hobby"
13 December 2011, 16:13
Holger Kranich
Right Dave! War is hell but the sound is great!

Regarding the copious quantities of Alclad required, the B-36 had a large portion of its skin made from magnesium, which was painted with an aluminum paint. It's not entirely correct to think that the airframe was "natural metal." The aluminum paint does not have the same sheen as bare aluminum. It looks like, well, paint. You can find some good pictures on-line of the B-36 from the USAF Museum or the one at Pima to get a good idea of what it looks like.

15 December 2011, 13:00
Urban Gardini
True that but the box in question isn't the smallest either...
15 December 2011, 13:36
Holger Kranich
Good idea Ecurie!
Urban, maybe you can make a garage from the box and rent it to tourists!🙂
