F-16 is back on the menu. I popped off those ugly oversized ram plates and I'm trying to figure out how to make new ones...

Welcome!
@Jos Jansen: Seems like there's no wrong pick with those aggressor vipers😉

Didnt spot the crack, but this blue polished canopy looks awesome!

Good to know about those stiffener plates. I have some laying around as well. Together with some Daco vinyl ones.

Now I wish I had also taken the Tamiya F-16 instead of Hasegawa 😄 this looks way more sharp...

Pierre, what primer did you used? Hopefully not an acrylic one...those aren't primers. You have to use a lacquer based primer, such as those from Alclad II. These primers are the perfect base for your final colors, especially for PE parts!

Well done so far!

Thansk to all of you! This scheme is quickly proving to be as time consuming as I feared it would be 🙂

@Patrick Hagelstein: those Crossdelta plates look really great besides the thickness which is showing a lot on the ram panel around the nose, and will work fine on any paintjob that doesn't require masking over them. Vinyl is probably a better solution for the curvy ones.
@Jos Jansen: this is Mr Surfacer 1500, it's just that super polished PE that seems to be non-cooperative unless extreme care is taken.

Looking good so far. Looking at the Gray and trying to tell if it's too light or not. To me it looks about right. Granted your lighting will have an effect on it. Looking at the full scale photo, the gray isn't that dark. Go with what looks right.

My two cents.... Looking at the cover picture, there's more contrast between the white and the grey. If asked specifically, I would go for a darker grey. Might not be the answer one likes but learning from you, it sometimes pays off to go for the more difficult approach to yield the best results. 😉

I checked the AKI RC248 paint which is FS36251 ... it's darker... it actually matches the one on the photo.

FS36251 is quite dark, quite darker than FS36270. However after some time it gets quite lighter, check out the Hellenic Air Force F-16s, especially the Block 30 and 50. So I would go with FS36270, standard F-16 colour, and quite dark when looking at say the Polish Air Force F-16s.

My 2 cents: I think the gray is correct but your white turned a bit gray through the black base...so since thats hard to correct I would as well choose a darker gray to get the contrast back

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I'll be able to fix that contrast issue and obtain a darker grey tone with a filter/wash. Or at least I try to convince myself so that I don't have to mask over the same spots again 😛

Amazing work. I just completed one myself with an Academy Kit I purchased at Hobby Lobby for $10. All the reviews bashed the kit but I believe it's the work you put into a project yourself so you love what you buy. I work the work you put into yours. More gourmet than mine. Bravo!!!

Welcome back to the Viper, Pierre! 👍 after seeing yours, I bought two Tamiya Vipers who await black and blue Alaskan Viper.

Hi guys, glad you like it so far. I'm not back on the Viper yet, had to put the hobby on hold for a while due to becoming a parent. Looking forward to getting some bench time again, hopefully this year 🙂

Congrats on your 1:4 human model Pierre😉

Cool masking job & sharp lines there 👍 I´m affraid the problem is with both greys, dark-too-dark & light-too-light... with the light-grey vs white contrast being much more of an issue... When I was doing my Agressors, I spent several rounds of testing & mixing all 3 colors vs photos, the suggested shades per-instructions were leading nowhere... 🙁

Congratulations Pierre!!! Is it your firstborn? And are you the proud father of a girl or a boy?

Congratulations, Pierre. I hope you have incredible moments with your son 🙂

Nice job so far.

Pierre
Thanks guys! It's great fun so far, but he and the mandatory flat remodelling take a lot of time 🙂

@Slavo: the darkest colour is only mr surfacer, so hopefully a very dark grey will rebalance contrasts and a filter on the mid grey will be enough. Still a lot of work anyway, and remasking all of that will be a chore in itself :/
