Very good. In 1977 or there abouts I gave away all my models to a young lad. I must have had over 100. All hand painted of course and most airfix. I had been threw every military offering in their catalogue land air and sea. Pity I have no photos for posterity

hej gorbygould... thats the spirit. very nice models there. biggest concern with 48 scale is the display space in my house 🙂 and using pe is overrated 😄

Like Alistair, James and probably most of you, I also had hundreds of models when I was newly hatched - mostly Airfix and mostly 1/72 and all brush painted in un-thinned enamel paint, so they probably looked like they were wearing camouflage overcoats. They ended up 50% plastic, 50% glue, 0% filler, they must have looked awful by today's standards. But oddly, whereas I can see every defect in my models now, back then I thought they were perfect. Maybe there is a deep meaning in there somewhere about the process of ageing, but I'll leave that to someone who's concentration span has fared better than mine.
Note to self: 'stop waffling'.
Markus: I like 1/48, but storage is a problem. I store them in large drawers in a wardrobe and it's getting to the stage of – do I built more drawers, or clear the dead-wood?
With PE I've got the the point of about 55% enjoyment, 45% teeth-clenching frustration. I keep persisting, so I must be part masochist.

i fully agree with you gorbygould..... . my percentages were kind of 33% plastic/glue/paint... filler? I didn't even knew it existed at that time, so i did simply add more paint to cover the gaps 😄.
And yes , some of those models were looking amazing to me then, while now i see only imperfections in all my builds. ignorance is bliss, certainly.
1/48 1/72 is a difficult choice, and now that i have space issues, i am certainly thinking on focusing more in 1/72, more challenging to get same result, but will be more rewarding, and certainly will take less space.

Space issues are affecting me. I now have two Ikea display cases, they are not ideal as they could do with another shelf in between the existing shelves and could do with being about 500cm wide. But I've been banned from buying more display cabinets because that would mean 'more Airfixes'. Hmmmm! We'll we can all solve the space issue as I'm sure you've all done as lads, hang them from the ceiling! only thing for me is my suitcase might be packed for me lol

Great idea! i still have a lot from my childhood days most are incredibly dusty or damaged. Also like alot of folks i had to do a brief (~15yrs) hiatus due to school and real life - let me see if i can do a shoot with those mixed and mashed.

Spanjaard: I have considered 1/72 as well, but I was always more interested in bombers as a kid, so the odds are I'd start doing the four engine stuff again. And as we all know, a 1/72 bomber is bigger than a 1/48 fighter, so I don't think I'd be fixing my space issue problem. 🙁
Alistair: I think my wife would call the men in white coats to come and take me away in their padded wagon if I started hanging them from the ceiling. Even if that was an option, eventually they end up as a ceiling hanging mobile, consisting mainly of dust. On the bright side, if she does pack your bags, you might get more storage in your new place – and it might be much quieter (that might depend on how far away you move).😉

Way to go! Very, very nice. All great work, and thank you for sharing. I have observed a pickup in mates sharing their earlier work, which is great 👍 👍 I like them all, but the La-5FN open engine and guy bay speaks to me 🙂

gorbygould: Being back to the hobby after ~20 years, I share the same opinion that parts under certain size do not exist 🙂
Regarding bad kits, I only had one bad experience with the D-30 kit from Skif (knock, knock).
