One of the few German warbirds still of interest for me, so I' m in. Never seen a resin kit of these dimensions.....
What do you think about the quality ?
4 December 2015, 07:54
Bart Goesaert
a nice bird, but will stick with the monogram one on 1/48... good luck with this resin bird, detail looks nice and sharp...
4 December 2015, 10:26
Ken Kolenovsky
Yeah...I'm in! Those HpH kits are quite nice. I can't wait to see what you do with it in terms of camo.
4 December 2015, 13:02
Chris Parsons
Hi mates the quality of the casting is perfect, smooth, void free, no warping apparent anywhere. HPH seem to have an eye for detail and quality similar to the best the Far East has to offer... I'm convinced of their quality to the point I am going to order the Me 410 next

Great project Chris. The Ta154 will be an interesting build.

Will look good beside Tamiya's mosquito too. A kind of theirs and ours statement

Dave Hill
Nice cockpit Chris. Are those fabric belts?
10 December 2015, 12:59
Chris Parsons
Hi Dave, yes fabric belts included in the kit, as well a sheet of photo etch and brass radar antenna and gun barrels. Odd decals in this kit, you cut them out, wet them, peel off the backing and lay a clear carrier sheet with the marking on the model, in a couple of hours you peel up the clear sheet leaving a painted on looking decal. No carrier film stays on the model, just the marking

So your not going to stencil and paint? I'll be interested too see the results.

Clifford Keesler
I love it. I did not know there was one in 1/32 scale, I have one in 1/48.
11 December 2015, 18:26
Chris Parsons
Hi Clifford, I'll put more pictures up fairly soon, I have also ordered the Me 410 kit from this manufacturer, hopefully its as good as this one is.
Hi Dave, I still think I'll get better results with paint
@ Ken Gord and Logan the Airscale decals are here, I'll bring to the next meeting.

Your achieving stunning results Chris, and the cockpit is perfect. 👍
Cheers, I love it. 🙂

Thanks Kerry, It's my first all resin kit.

It certainly looks challenging Chris, almost like the 'Vacuform" kits, but more solid. ! :-p

Mats Bengtsson
The cockpit looks amazing. I can't wait to see the engines. Well done Chris 👍
19 December 2015, 21:33

The engine gondolas look like injection moulded plastic parts, but with amazing detail all over. Interesting work here!

Wow! A great project. I'm in 👍

I'm thinking the nose wheel strut's extended a little too far, might cut it down a bit yet
27 December 2015, 02:03
Thomas Mayer
I see your point. Any chance to see a side view?
28 December 2015, 08:25

I will curiously follow the build! Cheers Stefan

I was honestly spoken not aware that there was such a German plane (being a German, this even hits more :-.), i initially thought it is an upgarde of the De Havilland Mosquito until i wondered about the TA Initials which are usually Focke Wulf Initials, so i read about this plane ...and there was really a kind of Inspiration from the british Mosquito as to the wooden fuselage , really impresisve plane and i like the Cockpit very much.

Clifford Keesler
It is looing fantastic.

Depending on which version you intend to depict, you should check for references as far as cutting down the frontal gear strut is concerned.
I' ve found two pics, one showing the V4 with a shorter strut, one of V7 with a longer one, exactly like in your kit. Unfortunately I am unable to post these pics in your thread, but if you're intersted, I can put them in an album or mail them to you.

In conversation with an expert on many things aircraft, it turns out a lot of tricycle planes sit at or very near the centre of gravity at the main wheels. Starting the engines would pull the centre of gravity forward and down on the nose strut, pictures on the www. show a lot of these planes sitting quite low at the tail. I'll leave it, for now...

Thomas Mayer
How did you achieve such clearly defined camo spots?
29 December 2015, 08:04
Erik Leijdens
Great progres Chris. Remarkable aircraft the Moskito.Camouflage spots are indeed looking very good!
29 December 2015, 08:53
Chris Parsons
Hi, thanks guys
The camo spots are more a product of good tools I think. I use Iwata CR airbrushes for everything. The spots are sprayed at about 8-12psi using a small amount of Tamiya acrylic in the paint cup from no more than 1cm away from the surface of the model, usually less than 1 cm (almost point blank) I use small amounts of paint to prevent it setting up in the gun and clogging the nozzle the paint is mixed 50% with Tamiya acrylic thinner and 3-4 drops of Tamiya retarder. After painting a spot I shoot paint onto scrap paper before beginning the next spot to help get rid of nozzle build up and spatter...makes sense?
I've noticed it has begun teetering on it's main gear suggesting more nose weight is required as well

Looking awesome Chris.

I'm putting on HPH's "wet transfer system decals" tonight, we'll see if I can ruin these as easily as anybody else's decals. these look like dry transfer decals, although instead of rubbing them down you wet and set them in place and walk away for "3 hours" according to HPH's instructions.
Decals are on and I'm waiting now
30 December 2015, 02:32
Thomas Mayer
Thanks for your help on airbrushing those very good looking spots, Chris!
30 December 2015, 10:23
Dave Hill
Hi Chris,... eagerly awaiting the verdict on the decals!
30 December 2015, 13:52
Chris Parsons
Sorry Dave I can not recommend them, I checked this morning. All the decals had some issue, most simply fell off the model, many more are lifting and tearing as I work on the model today. I sent HPH a email letter suggesting a switch back to simple waterslide decals may be in order. I need to source new codes and swastika's at the minimum.
30 December 2015, 14:55
Ken Kolenovsky
Hey, for a distressed aircraft look...they would be perfect! For your shiny, new plane....not so much. Good you let us know about them. Aside from that, the plane is awesome for a resin kit.
30 December 2015, 15:48
Chris Parsons
Hi Ken
Ya, can't fault the model at all, it's great. The decals do suck...debated doing a happy dance on it briefly, but sourced decals from spares on a Aims sheet for the 1/32 Ju188, spurious markings but markings at least. The model is great, I will toss the decals (if they're the same) for the incoming Me 410 into the garbage as soon as it arrives!
30 December 2015, 16:01
Thomas Mayer
Oh man, that´s hard. Sorry to see the transfer decals (?) didn´t work as expected. Is the surface of the kit glossy or matte, hard to see on the pictures.
30 December 2015, 17:27
Chris Parsons
Hi Thomas, it's got a glossy smooth finish, (no future wax) the Aims (Home of Ju88 modelling) supplied waterslide decals are working great (they always do though) I could take the blame for not doing the installation correctly, maybe I did something wrong?
30 December 2015, 17:37
Thomas Mayer
Dunno... I so far haven´t worked with those transfer type decals. Found this on HPH´s website:
hphmodels.cz/index.p..-wet-transfer-decals
30 December 2015, 18:58
Chris Parsons
Yup ,thats pretty much how I did them...nuts hey?
30 December 2015, 21:39
Dave Hill
Ya, even in the photo the transfer edges are so clearly visible. Any issues getting them off?
31 December 2015, 14:03
Chris Parsons
Hi Dave
No, the ones that didn't fall off came off with a damp Q-tip and a bit of a scrub, oddly there were ghost images that needed a scuff with a polishing stick to remove. I wonder if that was supposed to be the marking? In any case the markings are done (such as they are) and I'm on to adding the exhaust pipes and my OCD kicked in and I couldn't live with it anymore and shortened the nose wheel strut, looks better to me already.

Thomas Mayer
Beautiful exhaust flame hiders! I guess you used a lathe to do them?
1 January 2016, 18:55
Chris Parsons
Lol...no, (I wish!) I used a small pipe cutter to cut the large pipes (these were included in the kit as resin parts but with solid, not hollow centres, I wanted to be able to see through them so, I made these. the small tube at the front of the exhaust tube is another bit of aluminum tube rolled back and forth on the bench with a blade until the blade broke through. then all glued together with wire to make the cross at the front. I also added weight in the form of lead strip to help bring the nose gear down and to represent the exhaust ejectors added inside the flame hiders. I did have to thin/ taper the edges of the tubes a bit with a sharp blade
Building and painting the clear parts and radar array and other details today.

Nice work! Clever idea on the exhaust flash hiders! 👍
