I saw somewhere that it was going to be available again in the UK.

I would imagine Tamiya are frustrated at the EU ruling and no doubt they are working towards a solution, hopefully soon coz my stash aint getting any smaller 😄

@Choppa The words "EU" and "soon" does not match.😉 Why don't you order from another country?

EXPENSIVE ! EXPENSIVE ! EXPENSIVE ! EXPENSIVE ! EXPENSIVE !
because it is absurdly expensive to do so, I am not paying £12 or more for a little tub of glue however good it is 🙂 There are alternatives, not quite as good I hear but I will make do in the meantime 🙂

But one thought that did strike me was that if a few of us Brits clubbed together and made a decent order collectively we might be able to get a decent price if we get enough etc. and then share it out once it gets to England etc. just a thought, any takers ? 😄

What 'EU ruling' are you talking about???

I have heard and read that many times... about Tamiya Thin Cement being banned in Europe... But does anyone have a source for that?? Please enlighten me.

All my Tamiya Thin Cement bottles have proper labels on them, including all the usual warning signs and texts. All shops here (Netherlands) are selling Tamiya Thin Cement, from stock. And yes, they can order new stock, at any time, which they do.

I basically doubt there is actually any EU ruling on that at all. Or maybe, it dates back from when Tamiya still sold their products with only Japanese on the labels, which was yeeeears ago and therefor is no longer the case, obviously.

So... EU ruling... ? ... source?? Anyone? Please 😄

I do know the UK has much stricter policies in sending certain products (chemicals) through snail-mail. Like with certain sets of paint. But that's just the UK, not Europe in its entirety.
Better be careful then, Choppa, if you're going to order from abroad. If it is illegal in the UK, which is very much possible(!), you'll be in trouble!

Fek the rules ! My local model said he couldn't stock it due to an EU ruling...

That's really weird because if it actually is an EU Ruling of sorts, it would be illegal in all EU countries, not just the UK.

But okay, no prob 🙂 I was just curious because so many people say that but no one seems to be able to provide me with official info on it 🙂

To be honest I'm not sure either, it's just what he said, shame though & whatever the reason it's silly really, I just want my glue

Yeah, exactly... it's just stupid... 🤔 I really feel for you guys...

What is the active ingredient? TENEX went off the USA ( and thus all) market due to an EPA ban.

Label says it contains acetone and butyl acetate. Here is a MSDS sheet on acetone mfc.engr.arizona.edu..20FOLDER/Acetone.pdf and here is one for butyl acetate cnl.colorado.edu/cnl..-butyl%20acetate.pdf . I have no idea why this is not available in the UK

Well, I have done some digging and so far it looks like the UK mail carriers have some fairly retarded policies on what they accept and what not.

This, for instance, is straight from Royal Mail:

- Concerning water-based paints: "Volume per item should not exceed 150ml. No more than four items can be sent in any one package."

- Concerning "Paints, wood varnishes and enamels - solvent-based" - these are not allowed to be sent, both national and international.

I'm willing to bet that they have many more restrictions in place that prevent anyone from sending or receiving things like Tamiya's glue...

And if you choose to ignore it:

"What if I ignore the rules?
Failure to comply with the legal requirements for the transport of dangerous goods puts lives at risk and is a criminal offence which may be subject to prosecution. If you send dangerous goods and do not comply with the applicable terms and conditions then Royal Mail may deal with the goods as it sees fit including destroying or disposing of the relevant items."

U.S. postal regulations don't allow for shipping in the mail either, but it can be shipped UPS or FedEx ground. I got my bottle UPS with other merchandise from Scalehobbyist.

bunching of far king car hunts !!
this is all happened since the Tories sold off the Royal Mail in a really bent deal and now their prices have been jacked right up and with these kind of policies in place they can charge even more for having to make numerous deliveries, it is rotten to the core !!! far king far kerz !! Boo I say !!
that also includes lithium batteries as well which is exceptionally annoying as I fly RC models that use them 🙁

BOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!

I really resent what the Tories are doing and have done, it seems every time someone gets into power in this country they ruin it just that bit more for everyone except their filthy rich mates, there isn't an expletive rude enough to describe how I feel 🙁

Here's an alternative! I've not tried it myself but from what I understand it does work more or less the same as Extra Thin but with the difference that it evaporates a bit quicker and it's avilable in UK. emodels.co.uk/plasti..t-bmrcs-p-42526.html

Nice one Urban that looks like a good alternative for the time being 🙂

Phil I looked at the link and I couldn't work out what was going on with that site (I know, I am bit thick sometimes 🙂 ) what's the information relating to, where to get the raw ingredients to make our own glues ? 🙂

Anyhow chaps cheers for the pointers 🙂

Phil,
cheers for the links mate but I don't understand enough about it to mix my own glues, perhaps I am being a bit thick but I didn't understand what I was looking at really 🙂

Urban,
E Models have just changed their web page and the link no longer works 🙁
also doing a search on the website for Mr Cement S gives no results, I really don't like their new web page at all !!

Anyhow I found this on ebay so I took a gamble and paid £3.75 for a bottle from Taiwan, free delivery, should arrive within the next couple of weeks if Royal mail decide to play nice which is unlikely but I figured £3.75 was worth a punt. If it pans out ok I may get a crate full next time so I can pass some to other people in the UK. We shall see... 🙂

Gordon, it is certainly not a must have, but it is very helpfull especially if you need a fast bonding or you only need a tiny amount of glue.

Good News !!
E Models will be stocking Tamiya extra thin cement 40ml (870038) in 3 weeks time for £3.19 !!😄

Pete, the manager of the store phoned me up today because I wrote them saying how miffed I was about the new website and how the links didn't work and why could I no longer see Mr Cement S etc. etc. Turns out they do have Mr Cement S and he offered me free postage !!! 😄
So I bought two bottles seeing as he was being so cool about it, really nice guy and I like the service, well worth checking them out. Apparently they are 10% cheaper than RRP too which we like 🙂

I have an industrial source for a different compound that performs well for me with few downsides.
8 September 2014, 20:18
Choppa Nutta
Phil you must know your stuff when it comes to chemistry, not sure I would trust myself well enough to go full on industrial, I bet it works out cheaper for you though ?

Btw. Tamiya extra thin product no. should read 870038
I forgot putting an " 8 " next to a " ) " gives you a😎 ... anyhow. 😄
