I've made a start on this old tool model. I'll be modelling it on the VT-8 Sqn that fought at the Battle of Midway in 1942.

I've used Vallejo Model Air US zinc chromate interior yellow for the interior parts as I have surmised that this aircraft may still have had this colour as this was used in the early 1940s. 🙂

Interior of fuselage and upper wings (inside) painted Vallejo Model Air US Zinc Chromate interior yellow. 🙂

Welcome Patryk, this is quite an old tool so a very basic cockpit and undercarriage, however, hopefully it'll be presentable once completed. 🙂

Thanks Patryk, Jeff, Villiers and Marc for the likes. 👍

Wings and tail plane added. Primer applied. 🙂

Welcome David and thanks for the like too, a nice kit that has its age issues such as not fitting together particularly well. Hopefully, I can do it justice. 🙂 👍

After pre-shading (which I forgot to photograph) I applied M485 Blue Grey (Vallejo Model Air Faded PRU Blue) which was a colour which was used for USN aircraft from Aug 1940 until the beginning of 1943. 🙂

Welcome Villiers and David (I hope your Devestator came out well). 👍

Decals applied (they were quite old and thin and ripped very easily. 🙁 ) and a bit of panel wash used where I could. Next stage is matt varnish and undercarriage. 🙂

Thanks for the kind comment James. 👍

I have now completed this TBD-1 Devastator.

Canopy, engine, rigging and propellor all added. The canopy was a bit of a challenge to fit.

At the Battle of Midway on 4 June 1942, 15 torpedo bombers of Torpedo Squadron 8 (VT-8) from USS Hornet found the Japanese ships and attacked. They were met by overwhelming fighter opposition about eight nautical miles (9 mi; 15 km) out, and with no escorts to protect them, they were shot down one by one. Unfortunately, the torpedoes they were carrying proved to be faulty duds and none of them exploded on contact with ships that were attacked. Ensign George H. Gay, USNR, was the only survivor of VT-8 Squadron's pilots and radiomen.
After WW2, George Gay was an airline pilot for over 30 years. In October 1994, he sadly died of a heart attack at a hospital in Marietta, Georgia. His body was cremated and his ashes spread at the place that his squadron had launched its ill-fated attack.
After the Battle of Midway, the remaining 39 Devastators were withdrawn and transferred to Atlantic Command or used for training. By 1944, all of them had been withdrawn.

I like what I see.
I did try to build this model in my early teens but never finalized it. Bad fit if I remember well.
