Jens Andrée Bought this kit as a trainer kit due to its low price. The quality though was way under par and much worse than I'd expected!
I can't understand how Tamiya can flog such a poor kit since it hardly can't be good for their name?!
I have finished the kit but I learned from this to check each model prior to purchase - and that's how I found scalemates.com. In a way I'm happy I found this place due to a wonky model so in the end I won regardless, but if you want to add a Panther to your collection and aren't strictly into "vintage" kits - stay away from this kit and pick a newer one!

Holger Kranich Well Jens, they have already improved. And this is a hammer kit!
Jens Andrée Makes you wonder even more why they still sell the wonky one when they obviously have made new models??? Ok, this is a D and mine's an A - but nonetheless it's a shame because noobs like me without knowledge buy these "vintage" kits not knowing better and if I hadn't already bought another two kits at the same time, with much higher quality, chances are I would have binned the box and quit before I got started! That would've been a disaster since I'm really enjoying scale modelling
Thanks for the link!!!

Patrick Hagelstein Welcome aboard Jens! I always have scalemates ready on my phone when visiting a model shop. Don't ask how I came to that precaution....

Jens Andrée Thanks Patrick! Yes, this seems to be an excellent resource - apart from all the friendly people as well!

Patrick Hagelstein With that new shiny box in one hand and all the reviews in the world through scalemates in the other hand I can survive a trip to my local model shop. After I post what a bought and what I plan to do with it all those people are there to help and answer all your questions.

Richard What a great little kit for getting back into the hobby, or a good starter kit.
It has been many years since I did any modeling and back then I was just starting in life and, well you know, life gets in the way. Did okay as a minimalist, but was trying to do more but held back by not having the tools or the money.
Well I finally got the stuff I need and jumped back in.

gorbygould I think that quite a few on Scalemates would agree with that sentiment Mortifa. Modelling now is very different from modelling when I was a kid – and much better for it. Welcome back – have fun.

Richard So nearly got this completed. A lot of the old skills are still there, happily. Really enjoying the airbrush I got as it really makes a difference with painting.

Fabian D. Be sure to share some pictures of your progress, the Scalemates community is usually quite happy to help out.

Richard Put up some photos of the progress I have made so far, still got detailing work and try my hand at weathering. May go with a the paint scheme from this over on Panzer V; Panther Ausf.A from the 1st Battalion Panzer Regiment Grossdeutschland, Eastern front, fall 1944.
Not really happy with the fit on some of the parts, and the barrel is a little off... Really need to get some new modeling putty, apparently it dries out over an extended period of time.
