Robert W Martel added the Revell PB4Y-2 "Privateer" (1:72) to his stash.

Robert W Martel Had to have this one to add to my WWII collection. It's a reissue of the old 1980 Matchbox kit. At least it is molded in 2009 in nice Revell grey plastic and and still sealed inside,,, and a real nice decal sheet too. It does have scribed panel lines,,, old but should do nicely! Been wanting one of these for a while.
It's been about 3 years now I've been buying model kits. I buy lots on ebay, some from on-line stores, lots @ Hobby Lobby. I've been look at kits every day on ebay for 3 years and this is one that you don't see too often in this condition. Prices do keep going up.
Some of them you just have to bite the bullet and pay the price if you really want it! This one set me back $53! OUCH !! But I Like the plane, I want to build it, so It's worth it to me. The longer I wait the more it will cost !!
The OLD Matchbox kits go for near as much, are multi colored plastic of lesser quality, have a poor decal sheet in comparison. So it's really not that bad for todays prices.
Anyway, it's a done deal now !! I think it will be a great kit !

Hunter Cummins How is this kit
26. March 2014 at 22:03:13
Phil Marchese Hunter is the Matchbox tool. I m not aware of any changes. This kit has been reviewed with very different opinons over the years. In brief, its biggest flaw is the #1 and #4 outboard nacelles which are too shallow and pointed in the tailing sections. Most agree the clear parts have an odd quality to them that makes them look thick. The correct narrow blade props need some reduction toward the maximum chord. All that said, the shape is generally good and with lots of borrowed details it can be very good. Even out of the box it tells a good story as a shelf model. And no, the surface detail is not trenched. Cobra had a dress up kit which was great.

Hunter Cummins Thank you phil
one question
does it have raised panel lines???
26. March 2014 at 22:30:36
Phil Marchese Yes. The fuselage is mainly raised, very fine. There are seems that are fairly tight where subassembly fit. Some detail on the wings are recessed. My opinon is these are done with moderation and are up to the standards of many kits. The tires have funky ribs; not blocks or diamonds. Again, if one approaches this like a basic airframe kit, it is a decent. foundation for dressing up

Dave Flitton added the Revell PB4Y-2 "Privateer" in 1:72 to his wishlist
5. January 2012 at 15:58:49 Share
Urban Gardini Ah, the old Matchbox kit. How I wanted this one as a kid...
5. January 2012 at 16:02:45
Dave Flitton I decided to modify a B-24 kit into a PB4Y-2, I just need this kit to get certain dimensions and interior details. Maybe I should just break down and get the Cobra conversion!
5. January 2012 at 16:13:06
Wilfried Bogaerts and these Revell kits are worth their money for the decal sheet only!
6. January 2012 at 12:09:35
Holger Kranich Uh uh, be careful what you wish, this one is only for modifications useful, like you are gonna plan to do. And how Wilfried said, the decals are great but thats all... Have fun with your conversion! :)

John Bollig I have two of them and I love the plastic... Nice detail and I have some interesting historical connection to the Privateer. My girlfriend's father was in the Army Air Force in WW2. He took some very interesting pictures of the privateer equipped with the BAT bomb. What I want to build is the Privateer with the BAT bomb
