Basecoat of Mr. Color GX2 lacquer thinned 40:60 color to leveling thinner. Next step will be to lay down some mottling with Vallejo acrylics.

Mottling painted in two colors. First time trying this with an airbrush. Lots of mistakes that will get covered by the blend layer.

Didn’t totally work out like I expected but it’s okay. On to the top side now.

Getting the hang of the technique better (though the camera doesn’t show it). Goofed the camo demarcation a little bit.

![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/0/9/9/1571099-121455-16-720.jpg)
Found some time to do some touchup. Recoated the nose cone, added the wheels and pitot, fixed some abrasions. Ready for gloss coat now.

Time for some weathering with oils. Overall payne’s gray with raw umber details.

Panel lining with Payne’s gray oils
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/3/5/9/1583359-121455-96-720.jpg)
Added raw umber hydraulic fluid and grime stains. More streaking in the direction of airflow with Payne’s gray.
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/1/3/6/1587136-121455-41-720.jpg)
Light streaking on the upper surfaces. I might add an even darker wash to the dark grey areas.

Flat coat and masking removed. The canopy developed some crazing that will need to be removed.

Thanks Ekki. Hoping to get a black primer coat down soon. I'll be trying the marbling/black-basing technique for the first time.

Looking really good. I noticed that you painted the buttons in the cockpit individually. A technique that works well for me is drybrushing them as most are white/silver anyway, then to pic out some in the desired color.
Are you going to add ordnance? If I may add: I would flatten the wheels a bit to give it a more solid stand/feel.

Michael, thanks for the tip. I actually used that technique on my Revell P-51 (check my other albums for pictures). When the detail is crisp I prefer to paint the switches individually.
Its done. No ordinance…I wanted to do a slick Viper.
