Airfix Spitfire Mk.I (in-flight)
A little reference work plus the wood base. Still waiting on the Vallejo Battle of Britain paint set and some clear acrylic rod for the stand.
Mr. Surfacer 1500 from a rattle can with Vallejo interior color airbrushed
Working on a solution to allow in-flight mounting.
Glued several stacked popsicle sticks into the tail with epoxy. Then used a pin vise drill to gradually make a large enough hole to receive the acrylic rod.
Drilled a similar hole into the base.
Getting close to paint.
Finally got a satisfactory result with the plastic rod. May try again as this isn’t exactly right.
Silver, then on to the white under the starboard wing.
Touch up needed. Lots of masking.
Ready for camo.
I should find a cheaper alternative to Tamiya tape!
Soft-edged camo is wrong for a Spitfire, but I wanted the practice. Fairly happy with it given it’s my first attempt at fine airbrush work.
Thankfully the masking held up great.
Started on the decals.
Aircraft is finished. Base is next.

RuiGreat work in the Camo. I think the soft edges look great, regardless of if it's unorthodox.
Cheaper alternative to Tamiya tape I use is simply a big roll of fine automotive masking tape on Amazon. works out to about 25 cents a metre 😁
Just search for automotive masking tape and you should fine a few options.
