What about some smoke gushing out of the cannon ?
I am joking it is just as it should be.

Hi Neuling, excellent again, full of life... Where do the figures come from?

Thank you mates for your likes and kind comments! - Derek, please keep on plastic modelling! And don´t underestimate the sophistication of some technical Lego kits. - Olivier, the smoking gun would indeed be perfect evidence. I will work on my photoshop skills. - Jean-Michel, the figures come from the Masterbox kit "US Artillery Crew".

The depth of field effect in the photos looks relly nice I think.

What is the trick for making such sandy dirt? Powder and some kind of glue? Presumably it makes sense to glue the dirt in place, or, just have it all lie loose in a box (which could work I guess).

I once tried dumping the stuff onto a glass shelf, not the best idea. A lot better placing the stuff onto a base.

No smoking gun please! The guys look to be loading the first round, as there are no spent casings laying around! (Unless well taught by their mothers to put things away nicely and keep things tidy)!! 😄 Thanks Neuling 👍

Thank you mates! - Treehugger, I use model railway landscape molding mortar putting in sand or little stones while it is still wet. After drying I shave dust off pastel crayons applying it on the surface with a brush. A little bit of this sandy dust goes then on the vehicles to blend them in their environment. - Derek, Olivier´s smoking gun proposal wasn`t so bad after all. Large caliber guns like the Long Tom are loaded with a shell and - separately - a propellant charge. The latter is encased only with a kind of textile fabric which burns in the barrel without residue when the gun is fired. So no spent metal casings around. (I served in an artillery regiment.) - Thomas, ein klares Wort!👍

This is an Impressive big gun, even in 1/72. Great work and paintjob on the half naked figure and gun. Well done presentation 👍
Just a thought. Are they training? otherwise I think this must have been an emergency. No foliage or net camo? no gun emplacement? Aren't they way to exposed 🤔 The guy on the rádio won't hear anything and he must call transportation fast😉

Great to see some towed artillery with a gun section crew. The crew is like a football team, everyone has their own position. You've captured the action in a small area. Brings back memories of the firing points at Grafenwoehr.

Thank you Derek, Rui and JW! - Rui, I like your watching and thinking about my dio. Here I built the cannon "Adolph´s assassin" in action ( fall 1944 in Eastern France). Fast Allied advance eastward, heavy artillery always on the move to keep up with and to cover front line troops. Constant and hasty change of emplacement. As long range artillery rather far behind front lines, so not exposed to direct enemy fire. Air raids rather seldom due to Allied air superiority. So very often there was no time and no need for camouflage and/or a sophisticated emplacement. The guy on the radio is the gun commander and he gets all the necessary orders from the battery command post (gun elevation, bearing, start, cease, rate of fire, type of shell, fuze, charge etc.) which he shouts then to his gunner and loaders. - JW it´s great to hear you practised on the same training area as I did! We lived in camp Normandy and often went over to the American comrades to get their delicious ice cream pimping up our dry Bundeswehr crackers. We had American self propelled guns 175 mm ("Mad Dog"😢. Cheers JW!

Thx Neuling, for presenting the history and time frame that explain the dio.(The Album name didn't). Also they could be exposed to conter artiliary fire, had the Germans enough ammunition and good comunications. Risky thing.😎

Neuling, can you please tell me what railway landscape molding mortar you have been using? I will go shopping tomorrow at this toystore. 🙂 I also made this large online order yesterday, biggest yet, making me go, ooh this was awkward. I will have to buy just some paint bottles and maybe some of your stuff tomorrow. 🙂

Very good dio! The cannon and the whole scene are very well done. I have used the same Masterbox figures and I think the helmets do not look like real M1´s. Perhaps it is only my eye!

Thank you gorbygould and Agustin! - Olivier you can try "Geländebaumörtel Busch". - Agustin, it´s not your eye, it´s the helmets. Their size and shape are not really satisfying indeed. Can you show your dio?
