Hi Johan. That looks to be an absolute beast to wrestle with. Have to say I took the easy route with my Wimpey. The Trumpeter kit was a nice intro back into the hobby.

well this one was just 1 euro so Im not complaining, and otherwise it would probably be trashed like most of the stuff I build so far. Im not afraid to use some filler and it gives me experience for the kits I bought for more than an euro 🙂

Well that's a bargain however you look at it. Nice stuff 👍

yeah cost a shitload of time, filler, paint and needed to find decals, got a whole story how I got 50 kits for 50 euro's, the same time I started this hobby half a year ago

Only Dutch kit builders know how to strike such deals 😉

well to be honest, I didnt pay anything my dad paid them and just dropped them off at my place...... all kits were missing the decals so that I needed to solve. got most sorted now. but gives me the advantage that I can make any one that I want 🙂

Fifty kits for fifty Euros?! Here I thought I got a good deal once upon a time when I was able to purchase a batch of kits from someone whom typically didn't deal in model kits for $5 USD per engine. XD I built the Airfix Wimpy when I was in middle school and even at that time I wasn't impressed with it. Years later I built the Matchbox kit, I loved how they represented the geodetic construction, and when set side by side you could scarcely imagine that they were the same aircraft type. Of course my skills as a modeler were pretty rough in middle school though so that played a part.

There are plenty of decal sets on the market and fellow modellers can help with items out of their spare box. So 50 kits without decals is a REAL bargain

yeah got most decals sorted now

That is an amazing bargain Johan. Here in America sometimes we call bargain deals like that a "steal" because the only way it could be cheaper is to steal it! 😄 I'm looking forward to seeing your progress here!

Be careful about those Lancaster models as they're liable to spoil you since they're new mold kits! 😉 In the 1990s I built the Revell Lancaster in it's "Bomber Command" release, which was popped from 1960s era molds. Never mind the accuracy issues caused by the toy-like moving parts of the kit the molds were so worn out that it was like building a limited run model kit. I think I used an entire tube of putty on that one model and even then I thought it was an eyesore. (I simply didn't have the skill or patience to tackle something comparable to a limited run kit.) I like the new Airfix Lancaster series but it annoys me that I either have to seal all that nice detail away in a closed bomb bay or buy the Bomber Re-Supply set to outfit it with a proper bomb load. I mean I have three Lancaster models and a Manchester conversion to load out; What would I do with all those bicycles, trucks and trailers?! Thankfully Revell didn't do something underhanded like that. The Seafox has been on my wishlist for some time but anytime I get a model budget I usually wind up buying limited run kits before they disappear! 😄

Yes, I took the liberty of looking at your stash to see which Lancaster or Halifax kits you had. This is why I commented on them specifically. The Halifax you have is the 1979 vintage Matchbox kit reboxed by Revell. I have this same kit but from when it was reboxed by Modelcraft in 2004 but have not yet built it. I've built a number of old Matchbox kits and although a little chunky I have few complaints. I mentioned earlier that I much preferred their Wellington over the Airfix kit. 🙂

this airfix wellington has too soft plastic dont like it, and the black is crappy for me.
further just bought a second halifax (due to I also just bought the dutch decals for one) and I want to make one coastal command and one bomber command.

this one still needs a nosejob, so eventhough I alsmost finished it, I started working on filling the nose more the window was such a bad fit
I liked the result that much that I dont want it to have a crappy chin window

would not recommend this kit though, soft plastic, bad fit very crude details, but still was fun.

Who was it that said before that you cannot take a sow's ear and turn it into a silk purse? You just proved them wrong, Johan! There remain signs of the fit issues with this archaic kit but you still made up for many of them with sheer skill and stubborn persistence. When I built this kit at the start of the 90s I had neither! 😉 Definitely a fun build to watch. I look forward to seeing more!
