Olivier Markajconversion from Tamiya 1/48 P-38G to F-5A using CMK resin. Hard work, does not fit easily with the kit : wrong dimensions. anyway i hope i can get a nice result.

Olivier Markajhello Thomas. this is the second layer of painting : first metal MR Color 104 gun chrome, then and thin one of blue Tamiya XF-8. i will finish with 2 or 3 very diluted layers Mr Hobby H-42. Micromesh 12000 between each one.

Thomas THi Olivier. I look forward seeing the result. The model I currently do is documented in two different colors, the one you are doing or NMF, I have to investigate a bit more which one is more likely. Which marking will you do?

Olivier MarkajUS markings , haze paint dark blue for upper surfaces, and haze paint light blue for lower surfaces. 12PRS Florennes Belgium 1944. this is the one proposed by CMK with the set. the other one is one of the plane A.de saint Exupéry flew on several occasions. the problem is that i discover a bit late, yhis plane was transformed in a two seater....the radio equipment was moved into the fuselage and a second seat added behind the pilot. the armored plate was removed...too late for me, the cockpit was closed...next time !

Boris BHello Olivier, Nice Build ! And I like the weathering too. Those F-5 got pretty used up... Can you tel me more bout the fit problems you had with the CMK conversion kit ?

Olivier MarkajHello Boris. the main problem is : the CMK resin nose is larger than the Tamiya fuselage; about 1.5 mm and it doesn't fit like this. So i had to enlarge the base fuselage after cutting the kit parts. Around the front gear and then sand to adjust. at the top i had to heat the resin and press it to reduce of this 1.5 mm. consequence the shape of the nose had been modified and i had to use putty to adjust the upper part. another consequence ; the wind shield was too low and i had to raise it to adjust. Some work and some pressure because every time i choosed an option, i was not sure to achieve it. at the end everything went fine but clearly CMK made a big mistake. hope it can help you.

Boris BThanks Olivier. That does not sound very good for a part make for a specific kit ! I have the Academy P-38, and I wonder if the fit is any better. I haven't bought the CMK nose so I haven't tested it.

Olivier Markajthks for your kind words. Boris i don't think you can do a F5-A with the Academy P38. the basis is a P-38G and i don't remember that Academy did this one?
