Count me in Roland!

The kit can´t neglect it´s origin in the middle of the 70s, but promises good fit and proper detail. The raised panel lines are perfect for me- and should the Lancaster appearance even better then recessed structures, in my opinion.
A little help from "Eduard" should make the otherwise a little bit deserted interior look more accurate and "busy"....

Hallo Soeren...... das freut mich! 🙂

Nice to see this one from you. The Grandslam Lanc is high on my wishlist too. No doubt you will make a excellent model of it.

Thank you very much for encouragement, Erik.
The "etched parts offensive" seems to pay; especially the prominent front-cupola gets some very nice details! A little bit tricky to attach, but the imitation off the bolting of the transparent part looks really satisfactory to me- as does the bombsight, consisting solely from etched parts.

The PE details indeed worked out very good, respect for your work. I find a small cockpit with a few etched parts a real pain.

What a big lady 🙂 I will follow

Das sieht schon jetzt toll aus. Bin sehr gespannt, was da noch kommt! 🙂

Thank you mates! Most of the etched parts have been buried into darkness of the joined fuselage halves by now 🙂

At least we have the pictures Roland 😄

Wow...
24 May 2016, 11:27
Soeren R.
The cockpit looks really great so far.
@ Christian

Wo verstaut man sowas dann eigentlich Roland? 🙂

seem to have missed the start of this one, but it will be a pity to hide this exquisite interior...

Great job so far !

Hey, thank you all for these encouraging words and your interest!
Revells PBY is quite a accurate comparision!

You see a whole bunch of etched parts for the cavernous wheel bays- thank you Eduard, it would be a little bit empty otherwise! 🙂
Either I did work a little bit dowdy on the cowlings- or the parts really show bad fit: there will be some filling and sanding required!

I sign in - a Lanc was always on my wish list. Does this kit have the standard fuselage as well? The Lanc I have in mind looks like a mixture with this kit's nose but a normal fuselage.

Hello Thomas, this boxing contains parts for the "Special"- and the bouncing bomb version solely. However, this kit includes one very useful extra in form of pre-painted clear parts for all the canopies and turrets.
Also, two prepainted versions- "late" and "early"- of the bow hemisphere are included.

Thank you Guido,
I sprayed dull black before applying highly thinned "RLM66" from Gunze on the interior surfaces. After that, it was over-worked with pastel-colours to get some "life" in it.

Looks huuuuuge😉

Indeed! The measurement you reckoned for a while proved to be correct: I measured 65cm wing-span an 45cm in length..... I guess it´s the biggest model on my workbench till now🙂

The Lancaster slowly growth into it´s intended shapes.....
A lot of sanding and filling was to do, especially on the cowlings. A delicate work, considering all the raised panel lines! 🙂

nice build so far, found this interesting fact: thevintagenews.com/2..al&utm_term=none
true or fiction is left in the open apparently...

Thank you Bart for this hair raising story! If not true, then it´s well invented (I have no idea, if this German proverb is translated the right way 🙂

Using a slightly brightened Gunze H-335 "Medium Sea Grey" for the underside, I noticed incorrect filled or sanded areas. You see those imperfect spots re-filled and sanded.
After spraying H-335, I cautiously scraped off certain parts of the newly applied colour with the sharp end of a needle to show the underlying Aluminum-paint. I hope that will look good.

It really looks much bigger now... I must admit that Im really interested in this kit, but with this size....
Btw. really nice build so far 🙂

it is looking fantastic, i am in.

Thank you very much, Soeren and Spanjaard!
Some new pictures of the painted Lancaster: the edges of Dark Brown and Green have been softed with a hand held airbrush- and you see, there is a lot of masking tape needed! 🙂

Your paintjob turned out very well Roland. A fantastic Lanc in progress 👍

camouflage looks nice, and glad to see a non-black underside for this bird.

The more I see of this build. the more I want this kit in my stash 😛
Excellent paint job Roland!

Thank you both! Indeed Bart, that was an reason to choose this "special-version" of the Lancaster 🙂
21 June 2016, 05:05
Roland Sachsenhofer
The surfaces of this Lanc slowly grow into the final and intended look..... meanwhile I am assemble all the sub-parts as props, bomb rack- here some detailing work is necessary- and, as shown, the "Grand Slam" and the tail turret. Constructing this one, the pre-painted parts have been used.
25 June 2016, 19:17
Roland Sachsenhofer
The fuselage and wings, to say all the surfaces have been finished by now.
I am keen to see all the minor parts assembled.... to see this "Special"one finished at last!

Erik Leijdens
Looking very good Roland. We are all keen to see this one finished! 👍

Thank you Erik! After a enjoyable week on vacation I nearly got this big model finished.....
The cockpit canopy did show some severe fitting problems, so I had to re-sand and -paint the joints, a delicate work on the painted model!
18 July 2016, 10:35
Bart Goesaert
that is something I would hate to do, sanding on an already painted model... bit it is nicely done...

Just a thought, but doesn't the bombstand seems a bit light to support a bomb of 5000kg?
18 July 2016, 11:09
uncle chop chop
Well done looks grate I'm doing the same kit atm but building the white one for something different only out the box tho really wishing I got the PE kit tho looks so worth it nice work
18 July 2016, 11:39
Roland Sachsenhofer
Thank both mates!
Bart, your remark about the bombstand did me made cringe, when I remembered that the "Grand Slam" bomb did weigh even more than 10 000kg...... I have carefully placed her on a more stable support by now.... 🙂

Roland Sachsenhofer
Finished at last! In quite a bundle of regards Tamiyas Lancaster is obviously a product of the Seventies- a very basic kit, that needs some detailing. I did my quantum with adding some detail made from copper wire on the chain, holding the "GrandSlam" bomb and, of course, investing in Eduards etched part sets. I further did open both cockpit windows and scatched the opened hatches.
I am quite glad I did that big kit.... and I hope you like the result 🙂

I love it! 👍 You can be proud of this great result Roland! 🙂

Hi mates, what a great commendation! Thank you both!
Tim, your remarks on your Dad reminds us, that those planes have been manned by men with lives and families and their particular and unique biographies.
Am I right if I assume that you are building your Dads plane? Great project in any way!
