Well done mate, that looks amazing! That 5th wheel setup, looks like it grew there! 10/10 on your weathering too. It's not too much, or too little. I've always been curious about these, and this is the first one I've seen built and documented, with excellent pictures. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at all of them. Congratulations on your build.

Album info

I have a book by Bernd Regenberg which contains a lot of pictures of various types of Titans, including a couple of fifth wheels tractors. I believe these were not very common, all the more reason to build one. Luckily, the book contains technical data as well and it mentions the wheel base for the so called "Sattelschlepper". I had to shorten the kit chassis considerably, 6 cuts were needed because exisiting mounts for fuel tank and such needed to be taken into account. The fuel tank itself, and various other components, were also shortened to accommodate for the reduction in length.

With the chassis ready, I ran into an issue concerning the fifth wheel assembly. Because the chassis beams are not very high, normally a subframe and a load bed are put on top of the chassis, I needed to get that fifth wheel higher, while not being too obvious about it. It took a couple of tries to make something I liked.

As for hoses and such, to connect to a trailer, I tried fabricating a period correct look and feel. No coiled susie cables but thicker, heavy hose material it seems. The rack I built in the end is completely fictional but I think it looks pretty nice.

I chose Belgian plates because the inspiration for this build, in the book, is a Belgian tractor.
