Leaving my comfort zone and posting my first project. Continuing my battle with my airbrush. Going to try some new techniques. YouTube is my copilot. How bad could it go? At least it's an old $15 kit on Amazon.

I'm in! I know the feeling. You'll do great. Good luck on building this kit. Looking forward to what those techniques will accomplish.

A coat of Tamiya German gray, followed by a light coat of Tamiya German gray, medium blue, and flat white.

Forgot to take pics of painting the tools and the coat of desert yellow. I have added pics of getting the chipping effect with hair spray. I'm afraid I may have again proved the Law of Less is More. Also, before I forget, I have been following a helpful YouTube video by Panzermeister36, where he does a similar project with a DAK Panzer I.

I watched his videos too, if you want other good channels: nightshift, CW modelling, lasercreation world are my favorites. Nice chipping!

Decals on now with a coat of Solvaset. Let me also add that this model is NOT scratch built. It is straight out of the box at this point. I'm not sure why that is showing. I suppose it is scratch built by Mr. Tamiya, so credit where credit is due.

Decals distressed, road wheels painted, god-awful rubber band tracks put on. I use Tamiya brown panel line accent color on the rubber tracks. Adheres nicely to the steel colored rubber while also giving a really nice rusted finish. One of the tracks snapped when I was putting it on, requiring a somewhat shoddy repair that will be hidden. Those are the tightest rubber tracks I have ever encountered!

What's your method to put the tracks on? Because I had this problem in the past as well, I even used a stapler to attach the two ends, works good as a way to fix it without standing out. But I once saw a video that they put on the wheels except the one in the front. They put on the, pre-assembled rubbertracks over the wheels and then they pull everything in position while fixing the front wheel. I never had the problem again.

The age of the kit worked to my advantage. This is one of the old Tamiya kits with the option to motorize, so each wheel except the little idlers has a small soft poly plastic connector that will allow the wheels to spin freely, or more importantly, allow them to be removed. Even with the front drive wheels removed, I had serious concerns that the track, or even one of the wheels would break due to the tightness of the fit.

I've painted the muffler and spare track. Now It's time to pin wash the details. The video I watched suggested oil paints. I'm sure there's a product at the hobby shop as well. Open to suggestions!

I decided to use a Gambling artist's oil with thinner to do the wash… and again, I must remember the Law of Less is More. We'll just call it a filthy tank! The guns are painted and good probably use something to tone down the metallic sheen. Just about done with the commander. It's been an enjoyable build with no major errors/disasters.
