AMK F-14D WIP 7

Album image #1
This is the beginning of wing sweep weathering. I placed the masking tapes aligned to the wing root, and then rotate the tapes in a whole toward the outboard of wing

Just used a brush tied to the pivot point of the main wing to draw the curves. The line width of scratches relied on how much solvent I put to the tip of brush, and how hard I pressed the brush on the wing upper surface

It seemed that the trailing edge of wing suffered from rubbing more severely

the sides of nose section contains many service access panels, maintenance crew may operate with oily and dusty gloves. So these panels received a lot of weathering

Areas within the limit line of walkways may also have a lot of foot prints and... these areas also received a lot of weathering

This is one of my favourite photo in this set. The Super Tomcat is showing off its amazing curves.

The F-14 in 1/48th scale is huge, that my 18-55mm lens could barely take the fly-away picture at a very close position and the photo looked a little odd. The photos in AMK F-14D WIP 6 were taken with a 240mm lens. Expensive lens make photos look more realistic, haha

one of the domestic brand called Galaxy Models have made AMK F-14D a unique set of pre-cut masking tapes. It is useful in some circumstances, the walkways above the intakes is a good sample

The lower surface of wing also have rubbing effects as upper surfaces do

Weathering the wings

Album image #38
Top surface of horizontal stabilizers also received some weathering and this bird is most likely to be a VF-213 bird. The biggest reason is that the Blacklion scheme does not have very big decals, so weathering prior to decal work does not have much adverse effects to the working progress

Weathering: vertical stabilizers. As is revealed by the colors, the only painting option provided by AMK with dark blue tip would be .... VF-213 Blacklions!

Great progress! I especially like how you treated the nose part panels+radome portion, looks very life-like and "organic" 👍 What did you use for the stains?
I also like your wing sweep area technique 🙂 I used the same basically, just with a wire that I rolled up bit by bit and a very thin needle put into a rivet as anchor point
