KoPro DH88 Comet
I am building the Green version.
There is a nice cockpit inside, but it is difficult to see!
No locating pins or tabs on the model except for the tailplanes, and they were not made well.
I made the mass balances with piano wire and a drop of glue.
Drill holes carefully to install your own pins for the wings.
Take your time and locate the holes for the wing pins.
Install a scratchbuilt plastic dowel.
It makes the wing installation much stronger and easy to align.
Engine nacelles in place. They don't fit very well, should have spent more time on them.
First coat of white primer.
Test spray with the British Racing Green.
Finished with the green. Starting to look good.
Next will be a gloss topcoat.
I found the green to be a little too dark so I lightened it a little and sprayed a second coat.
I also added some CMK resin nav lights, there were none in the kit.
Canopy frame and wheels finished thanks to Peewit masks. They work very well.
Now the gloss coat is on, decals will be next.
Decals went on very well today. They are thin and a bit tricky. Also the letters should be white, but they are supplied in silver.
The wheels are in place!
The wheel doors installed. Also a view of my scratchbuilt pitot tube.
Found some very nice Union Jack decals online. The kit flags were no good at all.
Close up of the scratchbuilt pitot tube, made with stretched sprue.
Since this kit comes with a fairly nice cockpit, I posed the canopy open.
The lettering should be white but the kit decals are silver. Might have to build another now!
She has quite a profile.
Soon, a green full size replica will be flying in England.
Now, 53 years after I built the red Frog kit, I have all three of the Comets together.
A trio of sleek and fast historical racers. Very soon, we may see three full size a/c flying together!

Looks like this kit is not a lot better than the awful Airfix one. That said, good job so far Norm.

It will make a nicer looking Comet in the end but it is easily 4 times the work. The decals are wrong too. Instead of white markings they are printed in silver.

Just had to Google this aircraft to confirm my knowledge of it.
Only three made and sold for a discount price of 5000 pounds.
Commissioned just to win the race to Australia.
Then there were another two built later on with one being a Mail version for France
Thankfully two still survive.
Black Magic was lost for forty years.
It's currently being restored.
Maybe the green one is still out there somewhere

Small point of historical fact Willy, but the actual winner of the air race, albeit on handicap, was in fact a KLM DC-2:

And that was after getting lost in the middle of the night near Albury (requiring the whole town's street lights to flash in Morse Code: A-L-B-U-R-Y).

@Norm - sorry for hijacking your thread for a bit.
@Wilky - not sure if you've seen the Movietone film of the race, but the acceptance speech is hilarious.

There is also some great footage of the various competitors and their planes.

Yes, I've seen a movie at the State Library and have a YouTube video of it on my channel.
You must write Willy too much
