OG KP build? I am in, of course.

Good luck Lukasz. Don't trust this kit to be accurate. I had to make a lot of corrections when I made it.

Welcome everyone, very glad to see you joining 👍
Skyhiker, it's not meant to be top accurate, just as nicely looking as I can 🙂

Enjoy. Looking forward to seeing it built.

I think I know what you meant - once I started assembling the floats.
The mounting struts are completely different (SP-AFY had locallly designed floats).
While I won't correct the floats themselves, I decided to rebuild the struts so they resemble the original at least in general.
Very happy I bought the reference material for this project 🙂

Łukasz, I see you've set up a company to build Piper models. 😄
I wish you a lot of fun and patience in building.

Velke diky Ludviku, there's one more in my stash, but the new KP edition 😄

This is coming along nicely! Did you scratch-build the float struts? It sure looks very neat!

Łukasz Gliński
Thanks - sort of, I cut into pieces the underwing struts from the first Piper (the one where the paint peeled off)

Good looking little floatplane. Looking forward to the next steps.

Welcome folks! After a short hiatus I started spraying today. The frist part is the Ultramarine.

Thank you, decals have been added today. I can only repeat all the builders of this kit: decal film is extremely thin and definitely needs liquid decal film, otherwise they are extremely difficult to handle.

Hi! I see you're having fun too on this one!
About the decals, yes they need liquids, but also extra care as they're very brittle. Poor quality...

It's pretty in silver
2 June, 20:12
Łukasz Gliński
It is indeed and I was able to achieve the slightly shaded metallic silver, which I'm proud of.
2 June, 20:29
Thomas Kolb
Hey, that looks really sweet! Yes, the silver color on the original was actually silver dope, i.e. metallic paint to provide protection to the fabric from the sun, so the shade of the silver paint is absolutely correct.

Looking so good, Łukasz!

Welcome and thanks y'all!
Skyhiker, sorry to say that but it is indeed. I plan to add smal transparent chocks at the end so it looks better 🙂

If you put rudders on the back of the floats it will help it to stand up straight. That's what I did when I made this kit.

Great, Łukasz! The propeller looks fantastic with that wood correction pen 👌
How do you use it here? Do you paint the propeller with brown acrylic and then draw the veins with the marker?
8 June, 18:09
Thomas Kolb
I agree, the prop looks awesome!

Łukasz Gliński
Honestly I'm not sure what sh*t it's made of 😄 But it dissolves anything else and reacts with decal softeners (similarly to thinning).
So, I usually start with bare plastic (unless it's very dark) - otherwise it would mess the primer.
And I gently swipe couple of layers with few seconds of break between them.
Thus the pen only dissolves a bit of previous layer and where it des it becomes dark. So, few gentle swipes and there you go!

Cuajete
Thank you, Łukasz! It could be very interesting 🤔

A pretty little model - you really struggled with it, but it was definitely worth it! Clever solution for the tail-sitting - the tiny transparent wedge is almost invisible!
10 June, 18:57
Cuajete
Great job, Łukasz! Very nice result.
Good idea with the "chocks" or "wedges" on floats! 👍
Congrats!

Thank you all for these motivating feedback 👍
Use your imagination and enjoy the final pics 😄
PS. For those who are concerned by the prop and the engine mods - SP-AFY during the float tests used different engine, I tried to mimic it. And I know the float struts are too short, I might tackle it one day, who knows?

Great result and utterly enjoyable and inspirational tutorial/thread! Two thumbs up! 👍 👍
