Personal interest:
This model represents the MiG-23P, a specialized air defense interceptor that became the most numerous PVO interceptor in the 1980s. A very high-speed aircraft, the MiG-23P was a threat to even the fastest US aircraft within range. Over 1,500 MiG-23 variants were flown by the PVO in 1991. However, with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Russian Air Force made the decision to make cuts and eliminate all single-engine aircraft. The last Russian MiG-23P was retired in May 1998.
