Heard there was some quality issues with this kit.

Mona thanks.

David affirm, there are issues here and there but still is a solid enough kit to build even without any aftermarket. just not "polished" enough by today's standarts, that's all and i am not a rivet counter by any means so i am happy with the result.

as for the alternatives, i did not build the rye field one so can't compare. tamiya is tamiya as usual.

Özer is a brand for well done tanks. This Chally is another proof.

Album info

Not a particularly pleasant kit to work with, being one of them early generation of Trumpeter kits. it was dirt cheap tho so nothing unexpected. Most of the woes were actually with somewhat oversized and inconveniently placed gates. Overall fit was ok ish despite the size and amount of parts.

What this kit needs the most are:
-gun barrel. kit one is a multipart affair and the parts break down is not very helpful.
-tracks. usual rubber band woes.
-depending on the version you are building, wheel rims.
-grab handles.

Eduard's PE set while detailed some rather prominent parts simply did not fit, namely the engine cover grills (seriously undersized on both axi!) so i had to omit them which was a shame because afterall pe grills are one of those very noticeable details on armor models that adds overall, besides making weathering easier unlike this example here.

Model is loosely based on tanks representing the OPFOR gear at BATUS training grounds with their camo scheme varying almost all the time hence the mismatching hull and turret in this one which was intentional along with the flipped and mismatching sideskirts.

Decals are bogus unfortunately, so don't take as reference.

Surface texture with gunze gray surfacer 500, it's effect got outta hand i know. problem is the chobham armor + antislip texture combined can have a very interesting look in real life but not to the level here imho - must be much more subdued.

Tarps were made outta kitchen garbage bag. 🙂

Paints used were vallejo model color and tamiya, main weathering was entirely with oil paints. only pigments used were for metallic details.
