This is the stance I'm going for. The wheels are swap meet from an old Nascar kit.

I replaced the firewall with styrene as I didn't like the one included with the kit. The whole engine bay in the kit looks like the mold was melted at one point so I sanded the inner fenders smooth.

Moving on to the interior, good thing the test fit shows the steering wheel is way too low. More to come soon.

I design a single color flag and name in Corel Draw, then had vinyl cut on my wife's Cricut machine. Once I applied the vinyl I clear coated with gloss Rust-Oleum.

Started work on the Hemi. I drilled holes for the spark plug wires and pcv breathers. The pin at the bottom of the picture is from a computer hard drive. You can also see my airplane landing gear re-purposed as an a/c compressor.

I had to run a belt for the a/c compressor. The pcv breathers are in too.

After a prime of black, I painted the wheels with silver Createx.

I want to add details to this engine bay so I'm planning on running heater hoses, a/c lines and brake lines. I started with a test fit. I try to drill all the holes before paint. The heater hoses are tiny, tight springs from spare electronics. I get them from a buddy in the model club.

I've started with the engine details. I made a throttle linkage from spare model parts cut to size.

After the engine bay was dry, I cut decals out of vinyl and applied them. Then I ran the distributor, from Connkur Model parts. First time I used one, I like it. I also scratch built the brake booster from more spare parts and added brake lines.

Moving on, I started to detail the interior using thinned out oil paint. I like this method because it makes it real easy to fill the areas of detail on this thin molds. Just dab with the brush and repeat.

The interior tub just doesn't sit right in this body. You can see the difference between the door inner and outer. The key was trimming the front of the interior tub and some of the firewall.

Getting close. A test fit of the painted parts reveals the chassis has no anchor point in the back of the car. I need to add something here.

I cut styrene and just glued it at an approximated angle. Fitted the chassis in the way I wanted it to sit, pushing the styrene to an angle that I could glue the two together with.

Next I used the push bumper included with the kit to bolster the styrene. The angle was just right! I never intended to use the bumper so I'm glad I found a purpose for it!

Yes I found mpc kits to be a bit up and down some of them can be very good
I do like the box art on that kit
Got a few 1/16 scale kit from them
Very good value kits
Also very interesting subject's
Love the charger got a few different ones in all sorts of brands
Who dosent love a charger
Yours look cool in the matt black

Thanks JV. I'm looking to match the green box art as far as the paint goes. I'm going to prime in white, shoot silver then follow up with transparent green. BTW, I had no idea MPC made 1/16 kits!

I got the petty charger by mpc in 1/16
Cool car but same as your mold is not the best
I also have the 1979 firebird by mpc
That one I was impressed by
So I bought a second kit
That one is still for sale at my local model shop
The latest 1982 fitebird kit by revell was also boxed as a mpc kit years ago
That kit also looks like a very nice kit
Hens I bugth 2 of them
The Shelby cobra 427
Is boxed by amt/ ertl
Originally an mpc kit
I am sure thay made some more
I found mpc have very well priced large kits
But some are not the best mold
The petty charger is one of the molds that has a bit to wish for
But it is a coll car and a cool kit but sure will be alot of work to make a nice car out of
Your colours sound great looking forward to see how it comes together

Thank you István, I did stop to think about keeping the wheels red. Maybe next time! JV, the candy green was scary to spray with my airbrush. It only pushes 22 Lbs so I have to thin pretty heavy. I made it work though. On to the other stuff. By the way a 1/16 Cobra sounds badass.

Yes the cobra I a cool kit
But pretty much same as the amt kits in large scale
Same parts count as the 1/24-25 kits
Pretty much same just a bit bigger
Same as the latest 1/8 firebird
Just a big kit
Not like tamiya or fugimi 1/12 kits were parts count is 300-500 parts

The green came out very nice
I do love the lines of this mpc kit
I got a few charger kits but I think the lines on this kit is a bit better
Sure this will turn out to be a fantastic model

The engine bay on this kit (and the older issues) is still not the best part of the kit. But what to so. We have to handle that 😉 I like the idea with this special flag on the roof. Pretty cool. So I'm watching furtheron.
