Waiting on some suspension bits to dry solid on my Model Ts so I jumped into this Racer's Wedge. I'm not thrilled with how they chose to do the rear duals on this kit, but I've also actually seen a homemade sort of dual rear wheel contraption on a truck in person one time so I'm rolling with the it. Very simple kit, all undercarriage molded into the frame and floor pan, interior tub is one piece with seats and console molded in. Just be detail painting, putting the small block together and slapping it together. Should be really quick.

I grabbed one of those when they came out. I agree the 3 axle set up is a bit weird. Most real ramp trucks a duallys.

Bill, at a local track near me I once saw a van hauler that looked like he'd just welded a torsion axle off a trailer behind the rear end. Very odd and I didn't look closely at it but it had the same axle look. I think a normal 2 axle rear dually would have been better but this will still look cool with a racecar on the back of it so it's all good.

Getting this old kit stuck together. No real complaints about fit. Details are sparse in some spots, of course being an old mpc kit with a one piece chassis assembly. The small block is actually relatively nice. It has reliefs where the plugs go so it makes wiring it a breeze. Those are the only details I'll be adding. Frame and body are just dry fit but pretty much ready to stick on. Be back after it tomorrow.

Cool. Have you selected the name of your race team?

I haven't Bill. Have to take a peek at the decal sheet and see what pops out at me. I do have a GTO race car that will look pretty solid on the ramp though.

Put the finishing touches on this, this morning. As far as I'm going to take it at least. Fun build as long as you don't take it too seriously! I think it looks pretty cool with the racecar on the back and I liked how the "racers wedge" decals looked so I had to throw those on there. Basically out of box minus the plug wires I added. Super simple and quick build.

Thanks Bill! Really simple kit and I didn't feel the need to overcomplicate it so I was able to hammer it out quickly!

Love the colour on your truck nice build
Seprising good for an mpc kit I am starting to get a better view of mpc kits I use to thin they were cheap and nasty kits
I started 2 airfix kits that I am not impressed with
But I guess sometimes it can be hit and miss
But your sure looks like a good kit

Thank you Jv! All MPC/AMT (Round2) kits are not created equally. Sometimes they are just fine!! And sometimes they are the only ones with certain subject matter. The fit on this one was truly excellent and flash was minimal. Just not a ton of detail. But I wanted the ramp truck so I was fine with it. Research is key. If there are multiple companies producing one subject then I try to watch kit reviews. If there's only one company and it's something I want to build then I just have to live with it.

As far as build speed goes, I usually have 3ish builds going at once. So if I get somewhere on a build where I have to wait for things to dry before moving on I just set it to the side and pick up the next kit in progress. I'm not trying to be a speed builder but I do fairly simple builds too. Ignition wiring and seatbelts on race cars are about as far as my extra detailing go, so that helps with build speed as well. Brush and rattle cans have always served me well but I know airbrushes make sense in the long run.

Airfix is one of the few companies I haven't given a try yet. I imagine I will one day. I think all of the companies are somewhat hit or miss.

Yes I agree I think lots of manufacturers have hits and misses
Even after being a bit desapointed whed airfix I still had to have the airfix Bentley blower
I have seen its a butiful car if work is put in

Some kits are better than others. I am just happy that they can still be had. Subject matter is everything!
