Just breaking into this. Using the latest release Revell Camaro with some newly tooled parts, but more importantly including most of what I need to build an SS/RS. This will be more of a long build as I try to do justice to my father-in-law's beautiful car. The header on my project and the teaser on this album are a couple of photos of the actual car I'm building.

Looking at pictures of the real car's interior it also looks like I'm going to have source some different interior bits too. He has a full vinyl interior, not the houndstooth so that works for this kit. However it appears he has the center console gauge package and the 3 spoke wooden steering wheel as opposed to the 2 spoke included with this kit. Going to have to see what I can track down.

I don't think there is a right kit for this project. His car has too many options. Lol. This kit has the correct SS/RS grille with SS badging in the center instead of RS, and the correct striping for the sides. Also, the 396 4 speed. Decal sheet is excellent with this one. It's probably going to involve a few kits. I'll have to look that kit up to see if it includes the center console and 3 spoke steering wheel. Buying multiple kits to bash doesn't bother me. I can always build the others using other parts.

Yes I see
But it will be an interesting project
I got 3 of the chevelle kit
And yes it has centre console and the 3 spoke steering wheel
It'd also got 2 sets of rims
Its a 2 in 1 kit
Even if you need the 1 set of rims there is another one
So you can still also build that kit

Lol. Much appreciated for sure. I appreciate the knowledge on the kit contents as well. Makes my research much easier having the kit numbers. So, sounds like I at least need the RS camaro kit to go along with this and the Chevelle kit for the mag 500s. I love the 68 Chevelle anyway so I'll be happy to have that. And another camaro kit would allow me to build a 69 camaro for myself as well. All good.

Yes thay are nice kits I got a few of them both
I was looking at the grill and that's why you need that kit but
There is no rs or ss in the kit at all
The camaro is molded in to fron and sides of the body
The z28 is on the crome sprue x4
The ss badge you will find in the chevelle kit
But it does have 396 under it but whed a bit of fiddly work I am sure you can cut it of
Both kits have centre console
And 3 spoke steering wheel
So I think you will find most of what you need if not all in those 2 kits

I have started both kits myself
The chevelle is a 2019 new tool kit so very good
And the camaro looks like a good kit to
Still haven't finished them yet
Thise were some of my first kits
I just got back into models sep last year
So always need more tools and things
And there is always another kit I must have lol
Now I got about 200 kits and a long list I like to buy

Jv your knowledge of kit contents will make this build much easier. Thank you so much. I added a couple photos of why I chose to start with buying this kit. The correct SS/RS grille already in the kit and the wonderful decal sheet. Everything else will be built off there. Most likely I'll just end up with a few spare kits and build them anyway after I rob the parts I need for this build. And I have some practicing to do to recreate the vinyl top too. I'm glad you're back into modeling. Sounds like you have a fantastic collection too!

Sounds like you need the kit you already got I don't have that kit so I can't just open that and see what you got
Your dads car has some cool wheels
You may have to do some adaptations ro get the depth in the wheels
Yes there will be plenty to build the kits of in the ones you rob parts from
I am looking forward to see your build like always
And I always appreciate getting build pics
I have learnt many things of people like you
Ps I love your porsche

I will post pictures of this entire build so I can have them to show him when I'm done. And thank you! The Jagermeister Porsche or the 956? That 956 is one of my favorite builds but I've always really loved that Canon livery.

This is a very nice project i will take my eyes on. I love that Camaro-kit from Revell. It fits perfekt.
for the vinyl roof i choose simple "paint-tape". it has a perfect structure and i never had the problems till yet, that the tape went off.
i tried dip a sponge with black color on the roof - not the result i liked.
i tried paintig with spraycan with more distance that it will give the right structure - also not as wished.

Got a few extra camaro kits (thanks Jv) and now have what I need to do the interior. Spent last night practicing different wood grains on random steering wheels. I've never done wood grain before so I'm doing some test runs of different blending and color combos to figure out the look I need for the real steering wheel.

Recommended by more than one person including a fellow mate on here. Relatively simple and I feel it will get me the look I need.

Yes Jv, All interior parts and all thanks to your kit knowledge. Picked up that Z/28 kit for next to nothing. Now I'm Just waiting on the kits with the wheels. I went ahead and grabbed the Chevelle kit and the charger so I can take a couple cracks at getting them to look right.

Wood grain and gauges added to interior parts. Just have to finish detail painting and adding chrome trim. Going to attempt to scratch build a handle for the passenger side dash. We'll see how that goes. Engine also finished up and decals where necessary. Got it wired up too. Just the air cleaner and headers to add. His was originally an iron block car but when it was restored they put some original aluminum L-89 heads on it so it's an official 375 hp turbojet now. May try to make some sort of alternator mount too since it sort of just floats out there on all these kits.

I used to only build muscle cars back when I was younger. That's pretty much all the local places had. Lol. But since I took about a 10 year break and got back into the hobby I've branched out into basically every other subject. Muscle cars are always fun though.

My main interest is cars
But a very different cars from what I had myself
The cars I seen growing up
And cars l think look cool
my first interest was muscle cars
I also like older cars like the Mercedes ssk
The 540
The 300sl
Porsche
Nissan fairlady and skyline
I just started to get a few f1 cars
It was not really anything I had an interest in sort time ago
I also love the jeep and its history yes the old ones
After the 70s I think thay were horrible shit boxes
I grew op in Denmark
Spend a short time in Canada and now live in Australia
So I also love the Australian muscle cars
Unfortunately there is not much of them in models

Ah yes, Australian muscle cars are also excellent. Love it. And those early Mercedes were works of art. And I believe you can't go wrong with any Porsche subject. I've done many F1 and Indycars. Open wheel race cars have always been a great love of mine so naturally I enjoy modeling them.

Bill, thank you and nice color combo! Hugger orange would probably not typically be my first choice. But i have to admit it does look really nice on this car. His car is exceptionally nice and he drives it around to local shows. I'm going to try to finish this one up and give it to him for Christmas. Maybe next year it will make the rounds with him to the car shows!!

István, thank you! I'm a rattle can guy so that's just Tamiya TS31 bright orange. I think it works in this case.

Hers was, rather conveniently, a 71. But it was a slant 6. So I robbed that out of the 64 Belvedere kit and got some twister pack decals printed and I should be in the ballpark.

I haven't forgotten about this build for my father in law. Getting close to doing the small details and putting it together so it resembles a car. I've now got a vinyl roof on the car! Almost looks like the real thing. All I did was intentionally orange peel the paint. I think it looks pretty good as scale vinyl.

Continuing on with this headache. Trying to recreate a 1:1 car you can see in person has been a somewhat stressful situation. Lol. It's on 4 wheels now. Decals mostly on, mostly done, in general. Just a few more decals to add, front fog lights and final touch ups and clean ups. Then it'll get stuck in a display case until it's time to give it away.

I also got a model in mind to build for a Freind I won't let the cat out of the bag yet
My track record is not the best in finishing builds
I also started a few I haven't put up
Because it's a bit desapointing when I put them back in the box
After being desapointed in what I have done
There is so much inspiration here and you have definitely been one for me I thank you
I am finally getting an airbrush next week so I hope that will be a game changer for me
But as always I do things on the cheap so let's see how it turns out

Jv I'm sorry to say I haven't contributed anything to the site and I'm not sure how you go about that.
Also, I really hope to see some more of your builds going forward. Best way to get better is to get building. And remember, you are your own worst enemy. You will dislike your work more than anyone else ever will. Try not to get disappointed! This is supposed to be fun. And I don't even have an airbrush, so you're doing better than I am! Can't wait to see your work Jv.

I have many people I look upon here you are one of them
Now I got a project I have to do a bit like yours
For someone else
He dosent know
Between you and him I will have the drive
But probably won't be making as many models as you in the same time
But always looking out for the fabulous builds every one does here
I think you are fare ahead of me because you do something
Hats of an thanks for your inspiration
Keep up the good work

Wow Kyle! If Gary doesn't like his car, I'll volunteer for receiving her in his stead.

Thanks Martin!! My wife seems to think he's going to love it but if that turns out not to be the case I'll be sure and get your address. 😂

I was watching a video of KISS when they visited this high school in '75 and in the parade was a Camaro, much like this with these dumb ass teens standing and jumping on the hood and roof of this car. Take my time machine back there and slap some sense into them ( back when you could do such a thing)

Yes. No slapping sense into anyone bossy. Frowned upon you know. Ah man. It's a shame what happened to so many nice vehicles in situations such as those. Believe if anyone tried that on my father-in-law's car he'd probably do more than slap them. Lol.

Very nice effort! Good job getting it done. Do not worry if you do not consider it perfect. Your skills will improve over time as you keep at it. An airbrush is a nice step up when you get to that point. My rattle can paint jobs were about 50% successful. The biggest problem is the paint comes out too heavy so it requires fast sprits or quick strokes. With an airbrush, you have so much more control.

Thanks Bill! I've never built a perfect model yet and never let it bother me. All about fun for me and building whatever I'm interested in that day. At the moment I don't have anywhere to really setup with an airbrush but I'm also not sure I even want to get into it. I know control is better, colors are better because you can do what you want, less waste but I do love my hairy sticks and spray bombs. 😂😂

Kyle, it sucks when earlier generations are way cooler than us! Nice model of his auto though! Well done!

Album info
I will be adding some extras to this kit solely to make it more like the real car I’m modeling. Will be Hugger Orange with black RS striping. 396, 4 speed with L89 heads. I will need to source some Magnum 500 wheels for a start but most of what i need is in this kit.
