Resin cockpit compared to the original plastic one
Paint job completed, main blue gray color is a mix of 75% LP-36 & 25% C376.
Dry fit assembly looks promising
An oil based "Cold Gray" wash is used to highlight details
Cockpit is now into place for good using extra fluid cyano glue
Engraving is generally good, but some section need a re-engraving because of their shallowness
Fuselage is now closed, fitting is correct, but some area will need some putty and sanding. Intakes fitting is not so good, sanding is required for a good alignment with the rest of the fuselage.

Tiny errors and oversight in the Trumpeter mold engraving are highlighted in red
PE parts are used on the intrados. There’s is some errors and oversight in the engraving too
Transparency is not great on canopy parts, but Tamiya compounds and wax are dealing with this issue very well

The front section of the airplane need some care to avoid gaps and "stairs" between parts. I used Mr. Hobby White Putty diluted with Levelling Thinner and Tamiya Surface Primer.

I sprayed a Semi-gloss Grey for Primer, polished with sponges and microfiber cloth

I started the paint with a modular shading on a Gripen Grey base
A more blueish grey (AMIG203) is sprayed, very diluted.
First camo color is applied with a light brown (B306)
Then the base color is lightened or darkened to give a first weathering to the surfaces, which, in real life, were pretty worned out in 1990, just before the new Luftwaffe paint job.
Due to lots of issue, I've made my decision to restart the camo. It starts with a overall XF-65
Followed by a smooth mottling with a bluish mix ( XF-65 / H325)

Light Green camo (B091) , blutac and masking putty is used to avoid overspray

Small corrections and equalization using highly diluted base paints
Radome and upper tails part are painted in Grey (B263)
"Ghost" of East-German roundel are made with a stencil
Then painted with slightly darker tones
Anti-glare surface are painted with Nato Black and German Grey
I'm preparing surfaces for decals and weathering with a gloss varnish and polishing compound

Cold Grey wash on the anti-glare surface, Dark Grey wash on the nose.

Palo MAh, the box of paints confused me. Good to know about the cockpit. Did you consider the Zvezda kit? Was the trumpeter better?

Romain SablouI read that both kit had their pros and cons, but both are a good base, I quote : "the Mig-29 Zvezda is the most accurate in terms of reproduction of shapes while the Trumpeter model offers a more complete engraving and more details overall but has some small errors in shape."

Juskifopetite question: j'ai un set similaire de peinture "water base" Hataka pour le camouflage 3 tons du Su 34, avec quel additif/liquide l'avez vous diluer ?
les feutres W.N utilisés pour les effets d'hydrocarbures du moteur sur la photo 49 donne un résultat spectaculaire (même si il y a certainement du métier dans l'application aussi) quelles teinte suggérer vous ?

Romain SablouSalut Juskifo, les teintes Hataka ont été diluées au X-20 Tamiya. Les feutres W.N et Faber Castell utilisés sont les suivants : Terre d'ombre naturelle, Cold Grey 233, green gold 268, raw umber 180, walnut brown 177. Les deux marques proposent des dizaines de teintes qui peuvent s'adapter à tous les besoins, il faut aller voir en magasins d'art et tester les teintes qui peuvent convenir au projet ou à l'effet recherché. La patine aux feutres doit s'effectuer sur une base satinée, les coulures peuvent être tirés ou fondu avec des pinceaux légèrement imbibés d'eau.
