Bangladeshi Mig-19

Album image #1
Scratch built safety harness made of PE and Tamiya masking tape. I think it turned out well enough!

Album image #2
I decided to go with decals for the instrument panel, but I think it wasn't the best choice. Given how little will be visible once it's complete, i think it's good enough.

Album image #3
After the tip from Giannis, filled the gap with C.A. glue instead of Mr. Primer. Smooth!

Album image #4
Another first, trying micro kristal klear. I painted the cockpit separately - first a layer of VMS gloss varnish to avoid paint getting under the mask, then MRP mig interior. Unfortunately, i probably didn't give it enough time, as there are some black lumps of paint (not visible in photo). Don't know what it is, but doesn't look good.

Album image #5
The shape is now complete, though all the details are missing.

Album image #6
Completed pre-shading, the right half is already painted over with light grey. Decided to go with light gull grey - I realize it's not the right color, but it's close enough.

Album image #7
After finishing the bottom with light gull grey, mixed a warmer very light grey from tan + US navy white and painted over randomly by airbrushing through a thinned abrasive portion of a dishwashing sponge.
The resulting color is closer to what it should be, maybe could benefit from a one more layer of a lighter, brown-grey paint. I might go with oils instead.

Album image #8
Replaced guns with scratch built from an injection needle.

Album image #9
Testing paint shades for the upper body. Looks like the lighter color will be a mix of light+dark gull grey, the darker color will be tank grey+either light or dark gull grey. Still need to decide that one.

Album image #10
Camo pretty much done. There are some nice and some invisible transitions on the side. This time, MRP masking putty worked as well as I have hoped.

Album image #11
Scratch built parts on the fuel tank. The parts in the box were thick and didn't hold well enough in place.

Album image #12
Just say "no" to decals from the box.

I'm always disappointed how the first layer of paint clearly shows I didn't sand the seams well enough. This time, I tried to fill them with Mr Primer - to touch, it seemed smooth, but now I see there is more work to do.

Palo keep in mind that Mr Primer is shrinking as it dries, revealing the gap again. You will have to do it over and over (Filling - Sanding - Priming) until it disapears. Or try to use C.A. glue, medium or thick. It is much quicker as it dries very fast and its ready to sand and re-apply in no time.
Don't give up, you are in for a beautifull model!

Thanks for the encouragement, Cuajete and thanks for the tip, Gianni's - that explains! I got the idea to use primer (out of bottle with a paintbrush) from Plasmo on youtube, didn't realize it shrinks. I'll try some proper putty (water solvable), hope that will work. I don't like CA glue, but maybe it's a better idea.

Well, would you look at that! Thank you Giannis for telling me about shrinking Mr Primer and C.A. glue as a fix - worked beautifully! Smooth, for the first time ever! Thank you!

Lots of sanding on the wings, with KP making the unfortunate choice of wings coming in two parts, joining on edges.

Started with painting, fuel tanks and rocket pods still need to be assembled. The fuel tanks do not fit very well.

Going through the MiG´s with a system I see 🙂 I´ll join you on the 21 maybe, thinking about doing a MiG-21 in 2021... but not in this dangerous scale of course!

Underbelly looks pretty good already, but take care the bullets from the right-wing cannon won´t chip the nose!😉

Ha! I had trouble putting the guns in place, looks like it needs further adjustment 🙁

Fixed, by replacing with scratch built ones

Syringe needles are tight! 👍 I remember buying those in the 90´s in med-stores, me a young man then, the vendor looking at me like I´d be running a meth-lab or something, clearly doubting my claims the´re useful for scale modeling... 😄

Looking good, albeit the "one burst leader & wingman kill" look also had it´s merit...😉

Well, putting them there was super easy, barely an inconvenience. And looks better than before.

Camo is done, preparing fuel tanks and rocket launchers, but will weather it first.

Album info

A friend is from Bangladesh, so when I noticed it's one of the option in the model, it was the clear choice. Hope he'll enjoy the result.
