Looks like the turnaround feature of the 'Manage" tab is not that perfect 🙁

Won-der-ful pictures, must have been amazing to be around! And the Hungarian Puma is cool. They watched "Rambo" for too many times! 😉

Cool show, agree with Holger on the Rambocopter... 🙂

Pic 42 - RAF Typhoon with painted-over markings? How come? Did they let Putin into the hangar the night before the show?

Thanks mates
@Holger: It's Romanian actually 🙂 No clue how popular is Rambo there...
@Slavo: I was also wondering what's the meaning of this top-secret-Typhoon-camo 😉

I lost my pictures sadly so thank you for this album. I was looking forward to the Hornet but the Lancer was absolutely stunning!

You are welcome Martin, were you surprised by the weather like me? It was so clear and sunny, that I sunburned my face, didn't expect that in the end of September at this latitude 🙂

But it is a rather sad story behind the Hungarian P Hinds...

The P version was originally only used in East Germany (DDR), but even though these helicopters were only a few years old, they had a seriously lacking airworthiness documentation and needed a total overhaul. The unified Germany didn't want to do this, so in 1995, six P's were offered to Hungary for free. They were transported to Hungary on trains in dismantled form.

Hungary started an enthusiastic project for getting them in flying shape, but just as Germany had realized earlier, this turned out to be a monumental and nearly impossible task. So the project was abandoned and the six helicopters were left to rot under the bare sky for nearly 10 years, until they were literally falling apart.

Then in 2004, two Hind P's were fixed by cannibalizing parts from the other four and then in 2018, in a sudden spur of decision, all six P's were rebuilt, nearly from scratch and put back into operation, in their brand new dark-gray NATO livery.

Very interesting story Thomas, thank you for sharing. The amount of work and treasure putting those Hinds back into service boggles the mind.
