The Broken Ear (Canoe)
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/0/1/9/566019-26441-17-720.jpg)
A funny thing happened while I was working on my Arabian Dhow project...
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/0/2/0/566020-26441-90-720.jpg)
The Niña kit comes with this tiny little boat... looks a bit like the canoe from The Broken Ear.

Of course the ends will need to be extended and elevated.

Wait. Changed my mind. A bit of epoxy putty and now it looks a lot like the canoe from The Broken Ear... and I had enough putty leftover to make the cargo too!

A bit of sanding and she’s looking like she should. She has a certain dugout flair now.

Since I’ve almost used up my tube of silicone caulking... let’s go for broke. A bit of grey this time to replicate the silty waters of the Amazon river.

A couple of friends dropped by to see how work is coming along.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/5/6/0/566560-26441-26-720.jpg)
A bit more sanding and some benches added.

Painted brown, but I can still see the seam on the interior. How much do I care about that?
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/8/5/2/567852-26441-60-720.jpg)
A bit more paint for the cargo, and we’re done.

I saw the tiny boat from the Niña kit for the Arabian dhow build and couldn't resist a fun little distraction. It actually looks more like the small boat that goes over the waterfall in Tintin in the Congo, but the Canoe from The Broken Ear is a cover star. So, a bit of rhinoplasty with a bit of epoxy putty... and voila! One South American canoe.

I think you've got to model Tintin and Snowy now. It's something all these models are missing!

Hmmm, resin is so old school. I believe what is called for here is a 3D printer. This way Greg can do custom poses (with accessories like paddles) in 3D modeling software for each individual installation. Brilliant!
Greg, I keenly look forward to seeing your progress - and I think I speak for all of us here. Keep us posted please!

All kidding aside... It would be nice to have Tintin and Snowy in there but that seems like a whole other hobby/skill of making miniatures. 3D printers are cool but they too are another hobby in of themselves.

I'd love to try my hand at 3D printing, and probably will one day... but not until I can find some "killer app" for my wife. 😉 In the meantime, I have gone down the path of figure making/painting, but only got as far as the driveway. It's not easy, and I doubt I'll make a bunch of resin copies (but never say never), but in the meantime, I do intend to have at least the trio of Tintin, Capt. Haddock and Snowy appear in the photoshoots. 😉

Got some brown paint on, but now I sit back and contemplate the eternal question for model makers... can I see that seam? Can anyone else?

Ok... so a weird little side project, I admit... but it's done all the same~

Yeah. They all look MUCH better with figures. With these latest two (the canoe and the German police motorbike w/ sidecar) I'm now down to my last previously finished project in need of an upgrade - the DHC Chipmunk. Since I got an updated kit (arguably better than the ancient Airfix one) I wanted to give that one another go right from the spures.
