hi all and thanks for the comments. A quick word about my projects - I am in the midst of a major display project for a Navy warfighting development center that ultimately will have 200+ singles or dioramas displaying the evolution of air threat to naval forces and the response, and then today's threat through the next 5 years. Those builds are included here and I will showcase these as i go along.
The A-6 is part of my personal display and will be tied in with my CVN-69 project where i build Trumpeters 1/350 Nimitz as IKE for my first deployment off Iran in 1980. Displayed in 1/48 scale will be reps from CVW-7 including my squadron, VAW-121 Bluetails (1979-1982) and this example, an early A-6E of VA-65 Tigers (need decals in high vis!)configured for an alert 15 SUCAP. With no Harpoon in 1980 surface strike was a combined A-6/A/7 evolution with A-6 carrying the big @ss Standard ARM and Rockeye/APAM or LGBs and A-7 w/Shrike ARM, Walleyes and/or Mk82 dumb bombs (no GPS the). When i came back for my 2nd sea tour w/VAW-126 on JFK/CVW-3 in 1985, my toolset for shipkilling as an airing strike lead had dramatically expanded to include HARM and HARPOON, the latter available not only with my A-6's, but by the dopen via B-52Gs from Griffis AB to go after adv threats like the KIROV CGN. That will be a future A-6 build 🙂
