All parts have been sanded

Engine parts have been painted, pending gluing. Need to purchase Ford engine blue Model Masters paint. Purchased Testors One Coat Lacquer Flaming Orange, running tests to check compatibility to Calypso Coral.
25 April 2021, 03:30
Kayo
Did tests on Testors One Coat Lacquer Flaming Orange with gray primer and without primer. Did not like the results, lacquer paint in combination with gray primer created a very dark orange color with bleed through of primer color. Test without primer resulted in a very bright orange color. Undecided between yellow, blue, or white body colors.

Will try to find a lighter shade of primer to test the Testors One Coat Lacquer Flaming Orange color. Will also test the lacquer color with a silver undercoat to see how it looks. If tests do not pan out, I will try with a blue color.

Color tests for Flaming Orange were not good enough. Silver, aluminum, and metallic basecoats made the orange color too dark. Light grey primer with orange color was ok but not to my satisfaction. Will do one more test with a red color basecoat. If this does not look ok I will have to choose another color.

Red color base with Testors One Coat Lacquer Flaming Orange gave a very close match to Calypso Coral. Will proceed with this paint combo. Will try Flaming Orange as a base color and red on top just out of curiosity.

Color test with red color as top coat covered the flaming orange color completely, no effect on red color. Added last details to engine components. Did have to order Model Masters Ford Engine Blue, cannot find it at hobby shops. Only pending to paint engine block with this color in order to start final assembly of the motor. Still undecided on whether or not to add spark plug cables to the engine. Chassis, seat tub, instrument panel, steering wheel, and seats have been primed, pending color application. Main body and components have been prepped and washed, pending priming.

Chassis and bottom of seat tub have been painted, pending painting seats, top of seat tub, instrument panel, and steering wheel. Will proceed to prime main body and components.

7 May 2021, 14:22
Kayo
All remaining parts have been painted except the parts that had been chromed. Looking into Spaz Stix chrome kit in order to re-chrome these parts. Need to wet sand base coat on body in order to apply the top coat.

Kayo
Body and components have been sanded and top coat has been applied to the parts. Waiting on paint to fully cure. Will begin assembly today of the motor, decided not to do spark plug cables as I do not have a micro drill.
12 May 2021, 14:26
Kayo
Engine has been assembled but it is only pending those parts that need to be chromed in order to complete the assembly, i.e. rocker covers, and air cleaner.
Underside, rear suspension, and gas tank details have been painted.
Dashboard and cabin have had their stickers put on.

18 May 2021, 14:09
Kayo
Unmasked the front fascia and rear body panel and discovered that paint bled through the masked portions. Will need to go back and repaint those areas. I am still thinking if I should spray again or do a touch up

25 May 2021, 14:52
Kayo
The Spaz Styx black backer has arrived, will start painting all parts that need to be chromed
26 May 2021, 14:20
Kayo
Parts to be chromed have been painted with the black backer, the chrome spray paint will not arrive until June 2, one thing that I noticed is that the can is almost half empty and I only painted small parts. Will have to look into alternatives as this will not be cost effective.
27 May 2021, 14:14
Kayo
Tamiya panel line will arrive today, the chrome paint will be arriving on June 2nd. Ordered the BMF today, will be arriving by June 4

So, it turns out the package with the chrome paint is missing. Tracking number shows it was delivered but I never received it, opened up service request 27070997 to find my package. Tamiya panel line arrived Friday, BMF still has delivery date for June 4th

A neighbor brought the chrome paint, it had been delivered to its house. Will have to strip all metallic silver paint from the parts and start the process again.
14 June 2021, 13:33

11 August 2021, 05:32
Kayo
Body has been wet sanded, pending wet sanding hood, front fascia, rear body panel, and the hood.
I need to double check if I have gloss clear paint.
13 August 2021, 15:21
Kayo
Body and components have been sanded, decals have been applied, and BMF has also been applied. Next step is to clear the body and components, it has been raining all week and humidity is at 70%, will need to wait until it is dry to apply the clear coat
17 August 2021, 04:56
Kayo
Humidity is at 51% it's still too humid to apply the clear coat. Forecast for next week shows there will be no rainstorms, hopefully I'll be able to proceed with applying the clear coat. After clear coat is applied, I still need to wet sand the clear coat for any imperfections, apply the polishing compounds, and glue all remaining components of the body.
20 August 2021, 14:56
Kayo
Tried clear coating the model but the paint reacted to the body almost immediately. I will have to sand the clear coat and re coat the model once finished. I need to be really careful as to now eat into the paint or sand off the decals.
23 August 2021, 16:49
Kayo
Looking at the body I realized that I applied the clear coat too thick, this created heavy orange peel and runoffs. Interestingly, the only areas where the clear coat cracked was on the areas where the black paint was. I am running tests on spoons to see if the black reacts with the clear coat or the cracking is a result of applying the clear coat too thick. I will have to sand the entire body then reapply the clear coat in lighter coats. Should I sand the clear coat first or after repainting the black areas? I could sand the clear coat to a smooth finish, repaint the black areas, and clear coat the body again, I have to think about it.
24 August 2021, 05:08
Kayo
I decided to sand the entire body first, then paint the black sections, in order to re apply the clear coat evenly across the body. The spoon tests were "successful", the black spray paint does not react with the clear coat, the reaction was due to applying the clear coat excessively.
I am fifty percent completed with sanding the body, will finish tonight in order to reapply the clear coat over the weekend.
25 August 2021, 15:13
Kayo
Car has been fully sanded, will work on masking the body to repaint the black areas.
26 August 2021, 14:40
Kayo
The black areas in the body and hood have been repainted, waiting for paint to cure. Hoping to reapply the clear coat this weekend.
27 August 2021, 06:03
Kayo
I cleared the body but I will have to strip and re paint the hood, sanding and recoating the hood with clear just doesn't look good
30 August 2021, 14:34
Kayo
The hood has been put to soak in alcohol, I will check the progress tomorrow, all other body parts came out fine, waiting on clear coat to fully cure to start the polishing process
31 August 2021, 05:30
Kayo
Still need to leave the hood soaking in alcohol for one more day
1 September 2021, 14:29
Kayo
Did not have time last night to check on the hood, will do it tonight. I will start the polishing process on the remaining parts. Need to run tests on how the Molotow paint looks when I apply a coat of matte clear. Although it gives very good results, the paint is very delicate and rubs if pressure is applied, that is why I need to coat it with a clear coat in order to protect the chrome paint. The only issue is that I know how the chrome paint will look or react with the clear coat.

Ended up having to sand the hood as the paint being lacquer based did not come off. Hood was completely sanded to bare plastic and primed, waiting on it to cure to start the paint job again, only downside is that I will have to buy the base color and top color as I ended up using all of the paint.
4 September 2021, 06:18
Kayo
Bought a new can of Krylon ColorMaxx Gloss Cherry Red, will paint the hood tonight
7 September 2021, 14:42
