Birthday project for my brother.

Forgot to start a project for this model, but I came up with the idea to give this model car as a birthday present for my brother. I ended up choosing Lamborghini Rosso Bia from Splash Paints to be the body color. I looked into several brands of paints and different colors but I liked the Rossa Bia the best. I have to finish by March 11 in order to have it ready for his birthday.

What I have done so far,

1. All parts have been primed.
2. The model paint from Splash Paints has been ordered, as well as the 2K primer and c2k clear gloss.
3. I ordered from hobbylinc.com Tamiya X12 gold leaf and the Tamiya painting stand.
4. All chrome parts have had the chrome paint stripped down with chlorine and painted with the Allclad system
5. All parts have been painted their corresponding color.

What is still pending to complete,

1. Apply any secondary colors to whatever parts need it.
2. Need to apply clear to the body parts painted in black. I'll clear these parts using the Tamiya clear gloss instead of the Splash Paints clear gloss
3. Need to detail the interior.
4. Prime all the body parts that will be using the Splash Paints Rosso Bia color.
5. Paint all the body parts in Splash Paints Rosso Bia color.
6. Clear all the body parts that were painted in Splash Paints Rosso Bia color.

Purchases I have made for this project,

Progress on the Aventador is going per schedule. The brakes, rims, and tires have been installed and the interior components of the cockpit have been installed as well. This is as far as I can go until I finish painting the body and body parts. There will be no assembly until the car is painted. I need to sand the car for priming.

I have finished sanding the car and it is ready for priming, the only thing that I have to think before painting the car is what to do with the bolts that are on the body. I knew that when I sanded the car the detail on the bolts would be sanded away but I thought if I was careful maybe it would not be so bad. I lightly sanded the body and detail almost completely went away, now I'm thinking I might to create those bolts in some way, need to think about it. There are aftermarket parts for this, but I also saw it could be done with the heads of clothing pins, just need to make the size on the pins are up to scale.

I have primed the body and body parts except for one piece that I forgot and left in the table, I will be painting the part tonight. Also tonight, I'll start sanding the body and body parts to get them ready for the base color. I gotta say, I really liked the way this primer lays on, very smooth and minimal roughness, I think I will not have to sand a lot. As of today, these are the things that are still pending to complete,

1. Paint the body and body parts.
2. Clear the body and body parts.
3. Polish the body and body parts.
4. Apply the kit decals to the parts.
5. Paint the window trim on the body black.
6. Paint the bolts on the body and body parts black.
7. Paint the interior of the body black.
8. Purchase a display case.

All the body parts have been primed, they are ready to be painted tonight with the basecoat. All of the decals that could be applied have been applied, the only decals that are pending are those that should go on the body but I need to finish painting the car. Also all the sub-assemblies of the car are been completed, pretty much the only things pending are painting the body and applying the decals. I have decided not to paint the bolts on the body and body parts, I could ruin the paint job.

Things that are pending to complete,

1. Paint the body and body parts.
2. Clear the body and body parts.
3. Polinsh the body and body parts.
4. Apply the kit decals to the parts.
5. Paint the window trim on the body black.
6. Paint the interior of the body black.
7. Purchase a display case.

The basecoat has been laid on, I gotta say I am very impressed with the Splash Paints products, the primer laid on beatifully and sanded very easily and the basecoat is among the best paints I have ever used. There is absolutely no orange peel anywhere, the coverage is impressive, I thought I would finish the entire bottle painting the car but I used probably less than half of the bottle. Next steps are to apply the tintcoat to the basecoat, but first I have to sand a couple of areas where dirt got stuck to the body. I think a full day of curing is enough to handle the car and start sanding it, I checked their website and it doesn't say how long I should cure the car for.

I finished laying the tint coat last night, and the car came out beautifully. I am officially a fan of Splash Paints, the way they lay on, how easy they are to use, airbrush ready very fast shipping, I mean I get far more in value than what I paid for the paint. I'll let the paint cure for today and tomorrow I will paint the interior of the body and the window trim.

For future reference, I applied three coats of the base paint and three coats of the tint coat.

Things that are pending to complete,

1. Clear the body and body parts.
2. Polish the body and body parts.
3. Apply the kit decals to the parts.
4. Paint the window trim on the body.
5. Paint the interior of the body.
6. Purchase a display case.

The car has been cleared and it came out beautifully. I now I have said that Splash Paints are amazing but it's just because they really are, easy to apply, airbrush ready, and the color is amazing. I have a couple of other projects that I was going to use Tamiya but I think I will switch to using Splash Paints.

Pending things to complete,

1. Polish the body and body parts.
2. Purchase a display case.

Kit is finished, I am very satisfied with the way it came out, even my wife said that I have improved in my model making skills. I'll be uploading photos of the completed car shortly. On another note, I also bought a display case to put in, next week I'll be giving the car to my brother as a birthday present.
