The idea here came from a gift I received of a Tamiya Universal Carrier MK II kit.
The kit includes markings for the 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division. These guys were at Normandy and at Market Garden.
My diorama idea is for a scene depicting a damaged UC being loaded onto a flatbed rail car at Grantham Station, UK, home of Aveling-Barford, who built the UCs.
I was playing with the idea today of having a busted tank track on this, and the guys all gathered around in an "oh crap" moment, them trying to load the vehicle on or off of the train flat bed and the track coming off the undercarriage halfway up the ramp.

"Return From Market Garden"
From 17-25 September 1944, men from the 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division had participated in the action in Belgium known as Market Garden. After three days in the Pael area, the men were deployed over the Escaut canal, forming part of the ground component of Market Garden. The following day the 2nd Devons took over Valkenswaard, the Battalion C.O. becoming town governor, and repelled a counter-attack on the Escaut bridgehead.
The war over, men from the 50th are tasked with returning their Universal Carrier MK II to the originating Aveling-Barford factory at Grantham, for repair and eventual use as a display & memorial on the factory grounds. Unfortunately, the carrier's track came unpinned and has jumped off the trucks before the vehicle could be unloaded from the railcar.
While the mechanic tries to prepare the trucks to recieve the tracks, American servicemen stationed at Grantham, usually tasked with guarding the station, are drafted into service helping out with the repairs. While one Yank holds the tow cable, two more have gone for scrap lumber to help lever the tracks back into position. Several other Tommies watch on, amused at the helpful Americans' willingness pitch in to solve the problem.

I changed directions on the construction of the station building, going from a full model to a facade, to allow more space for the main action.
Universal Carrier is a Tamiya model, rail car is by Dragon.
Rail & buffer stop is by MiniArt.
Buildings are styrene, foam core board and coffee sticks.
Wooden crate designed & 3D printed by me.

David TaylorI.ve seen a load of aftermarket stowage for the UC on the web somewhere,Black dog maybe.
David TaylorBeen modelling for years now not much better,sticking with the hairy brush so always in awe of airbrushing.
ScottThis is all hand-brushed, I don't have an air brush but was thinking about trying one out sometime.
ScottI got a 1:35 Dragon Schwerer Plattformwagen (train rail flatcarcar) to add to the diorama, the Universal Carrier will be arriving at the UK station via train, home from the war.
The German rail car makes no sense in the diorama but it was the only 1:35 flatcar I could find under $50US (fount online at walmart.com for $40).
I suppose I could insert a captured German rail car into the story line too, but I'm sure the German rail gauge wouldn't really fit on UK tracks. Oh well.
David TaylorI believe German railstock used the same standard gauge as UK so should be OK.The USSR gauge was slightly wider.
ScottThank you David, that is good to know!! I have a stretch of USSR rail but didn't want to use it until I could compare with the German car (which comes with its own rail too)
