Mirage 3 CJ

Album image #1
I used masking tape and super glue to make the seatbelts. After that I added extra detail to the seat and belt with styrene sheet and wire. I also used stretched sprue.

Album image #2
Added some buttons to the flightstick with stretched sprue.

Album image #3
The cockpit had some buttons molded but I added some more. The Gunsight is very basic. I will use it as a base for a scratch build version.

Album image #4
The base plate for the instrument panel has very low detail. I added as many details I could find with the same material as the ejection seat.

Album image #5
I removed the glass piece form the gunsight and made a more detailed version. I will add the clear plastic after painting.

Album image #6
very happy with the result. I hope it will look even better after painting.

Album image #7
The gear base are also modified. I also added some riveting

Album image #8
Many Parts on this kit have pin marks. I did try to clean them up a bit. But the engine ones are not very visible.

Album image #9
I brush painted al the engine detail becasue it's hard to see it. I did practise some skills though.

Album image #10
I used a metal drybrush and a Brown wash to get a worn effect.

Album image #11
I cleaned more parts and also filled some pin marks on the landing gear.

Album image #12
Ejection seat is finished.

Album image #13
No decals needed. I'm very happy with the modifications.

Album image #14
I primed some parts of the fuselage already. These need to be painted silver soon.

Album image #15
Pretty happy with the cockpit till now.

Album image #16
The gear bays are painted zinc chromate green and I painted the details with some other colours.

Album image #17
The part behind the seat is also modified to get some more details.

Album image #18
Very happy with the result.

Album image #19
I also Added a wash to most parts.

Album image #20
Album image #21
The gear bay looks decent with some paint. No scratch building on this part.

Album image #22
Finished cockpit. I only need to add a clear part for the gun sight.

Album image #23
I did add some detail to the side walls of the gear bay. Not to much because I want make sure the gear parts fit.

Album image #24
I couldn't get rid of the ejector pin marks unfortunately. I also added some wires to the front gear leg.

Album image #25
I painted some parts silver already to make sure I get good coverage in hard to reach parts of the plane.

Album image #26
The Fit in the rear landing gear bay is decent but the fit on the cockpit Is really bad. It's hard to get it in the right place and there is lots of flash to cleanup. I probably made a mistake here and this causes a bad fit on the windscreen later.

Album image #27
The overal fit is not great. You need to clean almost every part. I also forgot the nose weight so I added Some behind the cockpit. Hopefully it's enough. I also Added a styrene sheet beneath the antennna part beause it had a large gap. This made filling easier later.

Album image #28
I'm happy with the gearbay's

Album image #29
The fit of the wings and belly is bad. Lot's of small gaps.

Album image #30
After a bit of sanding and filling it's starting to look like a mirage.

Album image #31
The fit here is really bad and this is probably caused by the bad fit of the cockpit. I hope this filler will be enough.

Album image #32
I added the Gunsight glass to the instrumentpanel And masked the clear parts. The fit of the windscreen is also not great. Some sanding will be needed.

Album image #33
I needed some filler on the fin and windscreen.

Album image #34
I started weatering and detail painting of some of the parts. I used ammo GreenBrown wash. I also added some wire to the rear landing gear legs.

Album image #35
It's starting to look decent. Almost ready for paint. The canopy is only temporaly fixed for the painting phase. This will be displayed with a open cockpit.

Album image #36
The ladder for the crew is finished.

Album image #37
I ones preshaded a metal airplane when I made my mig-15. I wanted to try that again. This time I used gloss varnish before de metallic paint.

Album image #38
I used Vajello Alluminium as a base. Very happyt with the final effect. I It's only visible at certain angles.

Album image #39
I used Dark alluminium for the darker panels. I also decided to paint the nose and some other panels because I don't want to use the decals for those.

Album image #40
Some more parts are painted I also painted the nose. Most of these parte will be weathered later.

Album image #41
I painted some more matallic shades by hand on the upper and lower side.

Album image #42
The decals didn't look very good on the sheet but the preformance was great.

Album image #43
All decals are applied. The instructions are not clear and some decals are not displayed on the sheet. l also painted the landing lights.

Album image #44
A Ammo brown green panel line wash is added to the upper and lwer side of the plane.

Album image #45
Album image #46
I also made some streaks and staining with tamiya black and brown washes.

Album image #47
I'm happy with the weathering.

Album image #48
Removing the canopy wasn't a problem. I also used some silver paint to chip the leading edges of the air intakes and the nose.

Album image #49
The landing gear aprst are hard to align but they look decent.

Album image #50
Album image #51
The last parts are added and I'm happy.

Album image #52
The extra cockpit detail payed of.

Album image #53
Album image #54
The finished Model. This isn't a easy kit to build and it has strange design choices. It can also use some more detail. BUt i'm happy with the result.

Really interesting comparison with the Eduard !

Thanks Dom! I will see what I can do with this one. I have heard that both kits are not the best.

on the Eduard I'm about halfway done. for the moment the nozzle system has been a pain to put in place and I have a few deviations and poor alignment but overall I am quite satisfied. The big subject is the markings since there are interpretations of Eduard like the big white sign on the fin which never existed. But putty is my friend and I won't search for perfection.

Well I'm not far into the construction yet. But the details are soft and I can already tell that fitting the cockpit is going to be a pain. But this is one om my favorite planes and I do like some scratch building.

Agree, nice metal finish. I see you used Vallejo Aluminium as a base were the rest of the metallics Vallejo and if so did you experience a long drying time? 🤘🥸🤟
10 May, 04:40
Vincent
Thanks John and Mark!! @Mark no not in my experience. The Vallejo metallic dry pretty fast. I did only use Vallejo metallics.
