This project has been running for some time now alongside other ventures that have excited me more, but now it's finally happening here too! With these pictures, I'll show you a short time-lapse of the construction steps. The last sequence is no longer entirely up to date, as wear and tear has since been added and the undercarriages have been installed. The generator card, a 3D print, is also running. Its surfaces still need to be properly finished.

With these pictures, I declare the 'Almaz' project complete 🙂 In addition to showing it in dry dock, I also wanted to show the deep-sea submarine in its natural habitat. To do this, I improvised a deep-sea diorama, or rather a deep-sea photo backdrop, using leftover etched parts, a cardboard roll and some aluminium foil. Everything was to be staged in the dimly lit blackness of the depths, where more hints than concrete and clear figures would tell the story.... The submarine spotlight is my contribution with Photoshop, the rest was achieved with appropriate camera settings.

I just noticed that the images are very dark, so I've made them a little brighter. I hope this improves visibility on your screens! 🙂

I would like to show the submarine in two different settings: firstly, here in my 'multi-use' dry dock 🙂, and secondly, in the darkness of the deep sea.
This small, approximately 30-metre-long nuclear submarine can dive to depths of up to 1,000 metres and has gripper arms under the bow for manipulating objects on the sea floor. Exciting and a beautiful template for a few staged photos and a nice diorama!

The USS Nautilus model is now complete. I had the following idea for presenting the model: since, in my personal opinion, a submarine model on its own doesn't look like much and I want to showcase it in a way that really highlights what I like about these vehicles, so there are two presentation versions. You can see the first one here:
I have set up a dry dock that can generally serve as a backdrop for submarines and ships on a scale of 1:350. To do this, I scanned a display from Coastal Kits on a scale of 1:144, reduced it to 1:350, printed it out and cut it up so that I could build it spatially. The landscape background is designed for changing harbour architectures and can be exchanged. The rest is a photographic game with a low horizon line, exposures and colour accents. Of course, the whole thing is only an approximation of the original and is just intended to place the boat in an atmospheric setting.

A second and final presentation has now been made and is featured in a separate gallery post: 'Full speed ahead on the high seas' 🙂 The pictures can be viewed in a separate post.

Wow, actually, "papermates" really does exist! Very cool, I didn't know that... 🙂 However, the propeller is made of plastic, so it's a real border crosser, a model amphibious, so to speak.

Thank you very much for this motivating feedback! I must say, Michael, I felt the same way, that I actually wanted to see more of the embers. But that gave me an idea that I will implement with the next firefighting project, two AF-2 'Guardian' fire bombers: I will simply fly them over a styrofoam inferno without dropping any water – it could actually look quite good 🙂

I would like to show you this Cushman 32 from the manufacturer FCM as a small, already completed side project. My second two-wheeler as a 3D printer model. FCM delivers decent quality, even if the "sprues" are sometimes in adventurous places and the layer structure of a print cannot be denied everywhere.
The small scooter, originally developed for the Paras, was widely used on airfields and stations - a useful prop for large aircraft models in 1:24!
Hardy and Hardy from Black Dog were again kind enough to pose for a size comparison.

It's difficult to describe, but I'll try it this way:
"To create the water surface, I proceeded as follows: I applied Vallejo's 'White Stone' to a polystyrene surface with a broad brush to prepare the wave structure and then pressed small wave ripples into the liquid mass. After it had hardened, a very dark shade of blue was brushed onto it, which would give the subsequent water gel an appealing depth. Vallejo 'Pacific' Water" was used for this semi-transparent depiction of water. However, as the result didn't seem to have enough depth and lustre, I applied another layer of 'AK Water Gel Transparent' to the future water surface, which I also used to fix the mooring lines to the surface where they were to dip into the water. Two disused oil barrels from a Tamiya accessory kit were upgraded a little with etched details and painted as mooring buoys before being half-sunk into the polystyrene sea. After three days of working on this project on the side, the S.43 arrived at its new, 'wet' place."

Thank you for your words, but I'm afraid there may be a misunderstanding here: the 3D print comes from FCM and can only be recommended in terms of quality and price - this is where 'low budget' comes into play. But I have nothing to do with the production myself and therefore cannot give any information about it
