F6 F3n Hellcat. Somewhere at Pacific Theater

Album image #1
The trumpeter kit is infested with marks from the spurs. In most cases these marks are hidden if you make the "normal" model, but if, as is my case, you want to show the interiors, it is hell to fill and putty all of them.

You must have good graphic documentation to be able to give a focus of fidelity to the interior. Trumpeter quality is insufficient for this scale

We are presenting the internal wiring. Both the electrical of the radio system and other instruments, as well as the tail cables

With patience and a lot of documentation we are completing the engine

Album image #12
I have primed it in white and have given it a very diluted first coat of interior green, lowered several points with yellow. The idea is to unify color to better detect assembly errors. Then I will give it the green interior and a lot of wear. It must be taken into account that it is an outdoor device, in the Pacific theater, with many covers removed and therefore very exposed to the sun and saltpeter...let's see what I can do...

Finally I decided to cut the front part of the radiator to be able to access and work better in the compartment with the hydraulic system.

Album image #14
I think this panel before the engine contains the hydraulic system and the support for the engine. It's going to be complex to work on because I've had to design my own engine mount and making it fit now is going to be difficult...

Under the pilot's floor I have Scratch-made the main fuel tank, which I will place later.

Album image #16
Being a workshop in the Pacific I have to decide which parts have been disassembled to repair or cannibalize and which are still on the plane. It's clear to me that the engine will go outside, in a crane, and probably some oil tank, perhaps the radio perforated by shots from the Japanese aerial vehicle, some perforated exterior panels... I have to think about it... any advice or suggestions?

Album image #17
I think the general appearance of the cockpit with all the scatch extras looks good. It is apparent. I am not looking for excellence in every detail, I am aware that I do not have enough technique, but rather a credible general appearance

Album image #18
In general the thickness of the plastic is exaggerated and completely out of scale. Knife, file and sandpaper until you achieve a reasonable thickness...

Album image #19
The closed fuselage does not fit very well, but I hope to solve it with a little putty and a lot of sandpaper.

Album image #20
We try to protect all painted areas with Tamiya tape.

Album image #21
The interiors of the area of the wing where it folds are very poorly detailed. Fortunately I have good photos and with a little luck and a lot of styrene maybe we can improve it

Album image #22
This detail for the wing folding system already seems better to me...

I'm working on a project that I don't know where it's going to take me. This photo inspired me. It is an advanced base in the Pacific where Navy operators are working to fix an F6 Hellcat badly damaged by anti-aircraft fire combined with the Japanese Zero....

Album info

My idea is to show an abandoned airfield in the Pacific theater with a severely damaged F6 F3N Hellcat used to cannibalize parts for other aircraft. In this project I want to work for the first time at 1/32 scale and show the interiors of the device, as well as parts of the deck damaged by anti-aircraft artillery.

Thanks to Rodney Williams for your inspiration. He is a master!
