Time for a change. When I saw this thing I couldn't resist. I'm setting the Jagdtiger aside so I can start this.

So I started with the pilot and...well...two words; "Worst Ever" The fit is awful and I expected better detail. Especially in a kit in this price range. The cockpit however has NO detail what-so-ever. So I had to bust out the scraps box for some doo dads to throw in there. I'm hoping the rest of the kit isn't this bad...jeez.

This looks like a nice kit!

I sure do Hunter. I still have to make cushions and safety harnesses for the seat. I did a dry fit of the fuselage halves and, again, I'm disappointed. It wasn't terrible, but still, it should be better for a $75 kit.
@ Kevin-Whether it's a nice kit or not remains to be seen, but it certainly has that "cool" factor.

I'm at the point in this build where I need to re-scribe some panel lines. I've never done it before. Could anyone offer some advice? I don't want to screw this up. 😛

Thanks Choppa. I should have known to look on YouTube. What did he call that tool? I couldn't quite make it out.

It's the Olfa P-Cutter

I think he said a "P" tool
Genesis Models also has a youtubery on this in one of his product reviews worth having a search for 😄

Mike,
take a pinvise, put a needle in it and put a hard edge next the the place where you need to re scribe(like a thick peice of plastic or a metak peice like the side of an old pe set as a guide)

I'm in - this is a nice beast 🙂

the two engine pods look a little like P40 Warhawk fuselages, and seeing as you have a P-40B Tiger Shark
Revell 1:48 in your stash Mike K, for the sake of curiosity could you post up a comparison picture for of the P40 fuselage next to one of the engine pods please ?
Cheers 😄

You're probably right Choppa. This kit is based on a scratch built model by Japanese builder Kow Yokoyama. It contains several pieces that I recognize from other vehicles. I'll put a couple pics in this album.

Choppa Nutta
may we have one of the P40 next to the front engine pod ?
so it is easier to compare 🙂

Mike K
Got it Choppa. It took me a while because I had to finish assembling the pods. Pics were kinda tough to take with only two hands. But I think they'll suffice. The parts are close but not the same. Perhaps they are from a P-38 Lightning?
1 August 2014, 01:00
Choppa Nutta
yeah the P-38 Lightning seems a likely candidate 🙂
Looking great thus far though, nice job on the cockpit and the engine is taking shape nicely too, do I see a little bit of guitar string in there ? 😄

Mike K
LOL Good eye man, yes....Dean Markley's...low E....gauge 10. 🙂

Choppa Nutta
Ernie Balls 10's is what I use 🙂
old sets of strings are worth keeping for scratch building such details, especially the really old knackered and rusty sets, classical strings would be good for those clear plastic tube fittings too

Laurent GUTT
Yeah, very nice details o your cockpit but, as you said, it's sad to have so poor details for a kit of that price... But, like this, we can have fun with inspiration!
Mine is in stand by, maybe your's will make me put my Falke on the stash.!
Engine pods are from P-38, you are right 😉
Will you add more details to the engine? It looks better so far. 😛
Keep pushing, it's a nice work!

You're right Choppa. I also use the high E string for antennas on armored vehicles.
Thanks Laurent. I won't be adding any more details. I'm at the point where I'm sick of working on this and I just want to get it over with asap.

Choppa Nutta
ah don't rush it now Mike, especially as it is really beginning to take shape.
Better that you put it down for a little while and maybe do rapid build of something else just to get that instant gratification feeling out the way 😄
I vote for more details on the engine !! 😄

Great project! I have the Hornisse in 1:20 ... yep you guessed it ... in my stash. These Maschinen Krieger kits are unique. A friend of mine is really into this theme and buys kits all the time, mostly off of Ebay. He talked me into getting one just to try it ... getting me to step outside my "comfort zone." 🙂

Choppa Nutta
I think the Maschinen Krieger kits look really cool but my goodness me they are expensive !!!!!!!!!!
I think you owe to yourself to make as good a job as possible with this kit having spent so much on it, even if you have to take a break from it 🙂

£78.37 for a Maschinen Krieger Ma.K. Accessory Set 1 !!!! wtf !!!! for a few bottles and barrels ????
no way dude !!

Agreed Choppa! I recall some of the prices my friend paid, none were really cheap. He explained the prices were due to the originality of a kit as opposed to a recent release, to include changes in the box design, who made them, so on and so forth. I got into looking at these on-line and about "stroked out" when I saw how much some of the kits were going for. They're in high demand I suppose.

Choppa, not that you would be interested in that accessory set you mentioned on ebay. But Amazon has the same set for 46.93 USD which would be 27.88 British Pound Sterling.

too rich for me but I am tempted to get a 1:48th scale P38, some putty, raid my scraps box for 1:24th figures and anything else that might work and have a go at scratch building something similar.
I love the style, also been thinking about a 3D printer alot recently too......... 🙂

Sounds like a plan to me. 😄

Ready for paint. 🙂
2 August 2014, 10:53
Laurent GUTT
Cool! What about paint of the engine? The engine is glued yet?
Have you choose a paint scheme for the Falke?
3 August 2014, 18:44
Mike K
Yup, the engine is glued. I know this could make painting it difficult but I plan on moderate to heavy weathering which should cover any sloppy painting. 😛 I was thinking of painting it a dark metallic color and using pigments to weather it. For the craft itself I will be attempting the paint scheme depicted in the box art.
3 August 2014, 22:42
Mike K
Paint on. Came out better than I thought it would. Now to destroy it with some weathering. 🙂

Yeah, one of my favors 👍 and the movie is cult😎

Great paint! I really like how you detailed the cockpit.
6 August 2014, 16:54

Thanks Mike.
Gloss coat and decals complete. Up next, pin wash, a flat coat and let the weathering begin!
7 August 2014, 02:25

Wow! Nice and decals allready done, you have worked hard! I can't wait for weathering.

Thanks Laurent. Should be done this weekend.

Thanks for the compliments guys. This one is finished. Not exactly how I envisioned it but I like it o.k. Gained experience in techniques that can be used to build aircraft, so there's that. Hope you like! 🙂

Alan Rush
Looks great Mike! 👍 Is it better than how you envisioned it? If not, then you are setting very high standards for yourself. 🙂
13 August 2014, 02:59
Mike K
Thanks Alan. The paint is darker than I wanted. This is a common problem with most of my builds. Something I need to work on more.
13 August 2014, 03:07

looking nice !!
I want one, or similar 🙂
