Jacky Ickx drove for Ferrari from 1968 until 1973 (taking a break at Brabham in 1969), and he won 7 GP's in a Ferrari. But his last win with Ferrari dated from the German GP 1972, and since that day he couldn't even come close anymore. Lots of engine failures kept him away from the podium, and in 1973 things got even worse. The car simply wasn't fast enough. When Ickx finished 8th at the British GP 1973, he was fed up and quit at Ferrari. The next GP was Germany, a racetrack he knew very well and where he had won before. So he went to McLaren and asked if he could drive a Yardley McLaren (semi works car) for just 1 race. He was accepted, and Ickx finished a great 3rd place after the 2 Tyrrell boys who dominated the season. By doing so, Ickx proved to the world and to himself that he was still quick, and that the poor results of that season were just the results of a slow Ferrari...

First I started cleaning up the resin body and rear wing. Next I applied a coat of white primer, after which I airbrushed the bodyparts with Tamiya TS-26 pure white. After 2 days of drying, I masked the main body to airbrush the orange area's left and right from the cockpit. I used BMF to mask the straith crisp lines and Tamiya masking tape to cover the complete body from overspray.

I didn't wait very long after airbrushing the orange aera's to remove the masking tape. I prefer to remove the tape when the paint is still tacky, because that way it doesn't 'break' off when you remove it. Just be very careful not to touch the fresh painted aera of course. The result is a nice and clean separation line between the white and orange...
