Kotare Spitfire Mk 1a mid
1/32 Kotare Spitfire Mk1a (mid)
Figure by ICM Ukraine
Accumulator Trolley self-designed in Fusion 360 and printed on Phrozen Sonic Mini 8K
Base is AMMO by MIG Scenic Mats - Airfield Dusty Summer
Paints used, Tamiya XF. Custom mixed.
Main Markings are painted on. For red, used XF Red plus a little brown, for Blue used XF blue plus a little Nato black. For Yellow used XF yellow plus a little red.
Used the kit decals for all stencils, and gun tape.
Kit goes together great.
Love the way the landing gear aligns
The only non-kit parts used: Fabric Sutton harness from HGW.
The kit instructions are among the best in the industry.
Check the Kotare website for updates. As of May 2023 they have released a "tip sheet" with helpful hints on building the kit.
The kit instructions provide many wartime photos and explanations of the parts. It's a real learning experience.
I originally used Mr. Hobby Aqueous Dark Earth and Dark Green. The colors didn't look right so I painted over them.
altered the colors a bit and painted on the main markings
You will spend 50% of your time in the cockpit.
One thing I didn't like about the kit was the plastic molded harness. HGW fabric harness to the rescue. I had a one in the stash, but since this kit was released HGW has released a new set specifically for this kit.
After main paint laid down, and beginning weathering.

Very impressive paint job. What's your technique? Black base coat and mottling the camouflage?

it's not black basing, I used a darker shade of the faded coat. But the same idea.
This is far from done, and I need to restore the hard-edge of the camo pattern also.
Thank you for your comment!

Thanks John. My copy of this kit arrived today—quite excited to get started. I love the finish you achieved on your Eduard 1/48 Mk. I. Do you have a writeup anywhere on what techniques and processes you used?
