Interior painted in acrylics. Started weathering using enamels and acrylics for chipping.

Thank you, Olivier!
I started the house, while waiting for new fenders to be replaced on the M10. Styrofoam and balsa wood are the choosen materials. Carved with the hobby knife and tooth pick. The fenders were then replaced of course. Merry Christmas to all of you, mates!

Thank you Rui, Bas and Olivier!
Happy new year to all of you mates!
The M10 was sprayed using the Vallejo Color Modulation Set for US Armored Vehicles. The set contains some nice tones for the Olive Drab which turn out nicely imho. Finally, I sprayed 2 coats of satin varnish to seal the paint and prepare the surface for decals an weathering.
The house received it´s first paint, using various grey and blackish tones for the facade. For the bricks I used a range of orange, brown and skintones. This painting was done with the brush only and in a "washy" manner, applying several coats of each paint.
The painting and weathing is not done yet. The brick joints need to be filled next, still waiting for a nicely VMS product to seal the plaster sand mix I´m going to use for this step. Just a few shots of the house, nothing glued, just to give you a brief idea where it´s going 🙂

Added the markings on the tank. I decided to display a vehicle of the 636th TD- Battalion, as it appeared in almost every after action report of Operation Undertone. The white star was overpainted from time to time by the crews. Particularly when operating "in the woods". Found this might be a nice detail to add.

Finally, all steps on the lose walls were completed...so far 🙂 Anyway, I felt like glueing it together to see some progress in that project 🙂 Next is roof construction and more details for the inside of the house.

Thanks Mathias and Rui!
Started the weathering of the tank. Acylic colors were used to add a more used look to the painting. Tried the chipping technique in 2 layers the first time. A bit overdone here and there. Hope to fix that with some mud and dust and accessoires 🙂 Oils were used as a final step for a faded look and base layer for dust and dirt.

The "blacked out" stars came out really nice 👍 Did you spray with a stencil and refine with oils? I am curious 🙂

Thank you mates!
@Tom: this is exactly the way I applied the stars.
@Ben: Its called Depafit or KAPA, a kind of styrofoam which is available in hardware stores in Germany. Its more solid than the standard styrofoam which is used for sound insulation on floors for example. This makes it very handy for carving and cutting.

In order to work the upper part of the house, the ground floor needs to be completed. Though, I made some interior accessoires for the kitchen from plastic sheet and wood. Some plates, cans and pots will be added before the painting can start.

Put some paint and weathering on those kitchen details. Next is finding the right spots inside the house.

In an impatient mood, I quickly did a test fit of the components. I must say, I´m quite happy with my first shot. Some more wear and tear for the floor needs to be added of course.

Very nice ! Just one very little thing. The broken chair leg, I believe should be bent inwards.

Started the weathering on the lower part of the tank. The base got it´s first layers of soil and ground material. Just a quick test fit to figure out the weathering on the tank matches with the groundwork of the base. Not yet satisfied, but on track 🙂

The first layer of green has been added. I applied various static gras from MiniNatur with the gras applicator. The color of the gras comes along nicely already from the box. Nevertheless, some paintwork is necessary and will follow as the next step.

![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
As the original foto was taken in early spring, I put some paint on that gras in order to give it a more worn look.

Came across some reference pics, showing water supplies in the yards. Found this might be a nice detail for the dio. Made from styrofoam and plastic residues.

Many thanks for your kind comments, mates!
Just a mini- update: While the building floor received some dirt I had the idea to connect groundfloor and 1st floor. I still had some stairs from another project which I never used. These seemed to fit well into this project. With some small additions, I can use it. A framework is just in progress to make sure nobody falls 🙂
18 June 2022, 15:12
![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
The stairs have been discarded as it was impossible to attach the framwork in a convincing manner. For a rural building, a ladder is fair enough 🙂 Having the stairs abandoned, it was time to install the ceiling. In order to keep the kitchen interior visible at least a bit, I collapsed the ceiling here and there. The destroyed roof offered some space for destruction due to weather conditions.

Better illumination pics of that tank. Unfortunately I scamped while preparing the rafters positions. Now the battens misses 2mm to hit the rafter on one side. This makes the whole construction instable. Resolution - add another rafter at the rooftop.

Though it´s rainy and stormy outside, I was keen to put the tiles on the roof. Lasercut tiles were used in order to install the same tile type as seen in the original picture.
1 October 2022, 15:38
![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
After the first run of tiles, the roof looked quite unbalanced and still too "naked". Afte reinforcing my stash, I added more tiles to the roof. The rest will find it´s place at the bottom around the house.

Spent some time on the figures. Some kit bashing was neccessary in order to mimic the poses of the original footage.

The M10 received another weathing layer of dust and the equipment was completed.

Time to start working on that fence, which has an important role on the dio. Made from balsa wood and paint.

Really nice! Where did you get the figures? I want to build a similiar diorama since i found the photo a few years ago. But my stash is so big and my time is getting less.
27 November 2022, 21:15
![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
Thanks Viking! The figures are thrown together from various Kits of my stash. I couldn't find any kit or resin figures providing the required poses. So some kit bashing was neccessary. Heads from Hornet, torsos from Dragon and Italeri and some sculpting putty are the used ingridients.
28 November 2022, 07:55
![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
The were no suitable figures on the market, so kitbashing was neccessary in order to get the right poses along the footage pic. Both officer and MG- gunner wearing the M1944 hood on their M1943 field jacket. This was sculpted with green stuff as well as the straps for binocular- and map case.

Pictures 1 and 2 are showing the officer´s face which is almost completed. This face has been painted using the glazing method.
I was wondering whether there are other techniques, that are less time consuming, but delivering acceptable quality.
So I took a testrun with a different painting approach. Pictures 3+4 showing the result of 30 minutes painting. Black as primer, drybrush with white, washing with the desired base tone in lighter and darker shades. Pic 5 for comparision of both methods.
Quality of the quicky method is okay for a 30 min shot. I stick to the glazing method, giving a smoother detailed paint result.

Completed those faces. Tanker and Officer painted with Vallejos, using various colors except skin tones. Infantry man with the net cover on the helmet was painted with flesh set from Lifecolor.

First mini completed. Binoculars still missing, since they got lost in deep space of my carpet 😄

![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
Indeed, my stash had some binoculars left and I took care of not loosing it again 🙂 Officer got its binoculars and second mini painted. Not the best flow in this project, painting those figures. Not satisfied with trousers and shoes of the GI, fortunately these won´t be visible later, as his position is right into the turret.

Though this one is completed, I wasn´t satisfied with the tree. This was made from seamoss and some roots from the backyard. It didn´t convinced me.
Was sneaking around the making trees from wire technique for a while, so why not giving this a try 🙂
I´m quite happy with the result of my 2nd attempt "bending" a cherry tree. It´s a good idea to have some reference pics at hand in order to get a more or less characteristic shape of the tree. Planning the postioning of the branches in advance is key. Once the wire is drilled, it´s almost impossible to retry/ correct without trouble.
I used 0,35mm steel wire this time, next time I try aluminium wire as this is supposed to be much easier to bend and drill - my fingers still hurts 🙂

![](/profiles/img/21096-573-s.jpg)
really curious about it it looks when finished. need to look into this technique 🙂

May I ask why you don't use copper wire? You might even have it at hand from cable leftovers and the like and it is very malleable.
Apart from that, this tree has the potential to make an excellent diorama even better. I cross my fingers.

![](/profiles/img/user-s.jpg)
Next stage, tree received 3 runs of structuring material. 1st - Some putty, had nothing else as AK Terrain Effects, worked well to get rid of the wire structure. 2nd - sawdust, more or less in fine graining to achieve more structure. 3rd - very fine soil for the smallest branches at the top. Next is to add the very fine branches.
@Michael: Just didn't came to mind, to use copper wire.
Definetly a hand gently and money saving approach 🙂
