I wonder, what kind of gloss coat/varnish do you have, if any, on the model?
Working with gloss coats is what makes my airbrushing activitity, not fun after learning that my favourite gloss coat makes a cracking pattern. I should try putting on a thin layer first perhaps and let it dry, maybe that will prevent cracking, instead of layering many non-dry coats that perhaps go so hard, the paint cracks. Ofc, I can't quite tell if it is the primer, paint or transparent gloss coat that is actually cracking.

Hi Treehugger ! usually for gloss coating i use future / pledge or tamiya Clear gloss. apply two light coats and give a proper drying time. Usually i use acrylic paints. I had a modeller friend who had a similar issue on one of his models and it could be too much thinner on the varnish, that eventually attacked the paint layer.
